If you have access to Maltby's original book "Golf Club Design, Fitting, Alteration, Repair" he has a great tutorial on how to dip club heads. Works great, no runs, and the coverage is incredible. In summary, scuff the head, wrap and tape a folded paper towel around the ferrule (or whipping if whipped); dip the head and hold it above the container with the sole/ toe down until dripping becomes light; turn the head up with a slightly open face and tilt the head up /grip down to about thirty degree angle. After about thirty minutes in this orientation can move to a drying rack.
