Only Tiger can shoot a 72 with all the tee shots he hit into other zip codes.  I've never seen any PGA Tour player miss so many tee shots in such a horrific manner.  But Torrey is a course that you can recover from hitting tee shots like that.  And that is the magic of Tiger.  He can win from anywhere. :D

IIRC he was still best in total driving statistics in tournament, or was that after 3 rounds?
He was #2 in distance (behind Garrigues) and T17 in accuracy, so if he wasn't #1 in total driving he was darned close.  At this early point in the season he is overall #6 in total driving.  After being #5 in total driving last year.  Of course to listen to some people he is about the worst driver in the world and if he could just drive as well as the average tour player he would clean up.  :cheesy:
exactly.

total driving stat
2005:  86
2006:  28
2007:  45
2008:  N/A (not enough events)
2009:  12

2012:  6
2013:  8

remember his winning % from 2005-2009?  i think it's over 40%.  It's not the driver!!!!  It was his short game that held him back last year.  if his short game this year is as good as it was last week, watch out.
Wasn't just the short game. It was his wedge play and short iron play more than anything else. He used to be consistently around the top 10 in proximity to the hole from 50-125 yards, but last year he was ranked around 100th in that stat. His scrambling stat was top 10 last year. Did he screw up with his short game occasionally (especially bunker shots)? Definitely. But it wasn't as consistent of a problem as his wedge shots and short iron shots. Those are your money clubs. They say you putt for dough, but if you're 15 yards short or long on all of your wedge shots, it doesn't matter how good of a putter you are.
