First off I hope I posted this in the correct area as the Trinity is a Pre-release shaft.

So I had the opportunity to get my hands on two new shafts from Aldila. The first most people know about the Phenom NL and the other is the Trinity. A little about me. I am a 0 handicap and I did a little bit of longdrive for fun before I realized I can’t swing 130 and still play good golf. I am a High launch high spin player. My driver is a Titleist 913D3 7.5* Set to C1 I average about 117ss usually launch around 13* and rarely get under 2700 rpms. I have played GD 9003x and the Oban Devotion 06 flex with the 9003x giving me the lowest spin average of 2375.

Disclaimer I didn’t have the trackman for this testing but I am trying to line one up for tomorrow so I can give some real hard data since everyone just wants trackman numbers.

Now for the good stuff. After reading the specs of the Phenomn NL 70 Tour X. I thought for sure this was going to be love at first swing and this would go straight in the bag. Only problem was I decided to hit the Trinity first. So here is the deal on the Phenom NL it definitely low launch and low spin I hit low flat bullets that roll forever!!! I really liked this shaft it was exactly what i was looking for. It’s very stable without feeling boardy.

On to the TRINITY 65 Tour X. Not sure how much info is out there about this shaft yet but it combines three of Aldilas technologies into one shaft. It has Laminate Technology like the NV, S-Core Technology like the Voodoo line and RIP Technology. Let me start out by saying this is not normally a shaft I would have thought I would like a Mid launch shaft usually means to the moon for me. I tried the Trinity first and the first 3 balls I hit were dead straight perfect trajectory and none of them were more than 5 yards offline. After the first swing I thought "wow that felt really good" after the second I thought "there is no way this shaft is this good." Then after I hit the third ball I said out loud "ding ding ding we have a winner Bob". I hit 7 more shots with this and every single one impressed me more. I was able to go after it and not have to worry about it going left and if I smoothed one it didnt go right.(those are my tendencies) After the ten balls I hit I didn’t even want to try the Phenom NL because I was sooo impressed. The shaft was so stable and felt so smooth I really couldn’t believe it. This shaft will be in the bag for a long time.

I was very surprised with that shaft also...like the RIP's, don't like the Voodoo and the NV much at all...but this was tight, softer than expected and launch was very consistent and dispersion was tight...will be getting an RFE with this shaft in the X flex...!

Hope to see the trackman numbers. I thought the Kiyoshi Black was going to be my new shaft for 2013, but it spun to the moon. I'm liking the Speeder 6.2, but this Trinity seems interesting.

What are the specs on the trinity and phenom NL shafts?  What is the differences between the phenom and the phenom NL?

I agree with you on the Trinity. I tried the Trinity 65X, the stock shaft in the Razr Fit Extreme, and it is one solid shaft. Great feel and stability all in one package, especially given the specs, which most would look at and think it would be a much softer and higher spin shaft. I thought spin could be a bit lower still, but it was not high by any means. It actually reminded me of the Phenom a lot (I haven't hit the NL).

Hit the RFX with this in stiff this weekend. SS right around 100. Same results for me. Shaft felt great, Low to mid lauch. Spin around 2500 for me. LA between 11/14 deg. Tight shots, as with OP my tendancy is to pull when going after and push when trying to smooth. either way not far off C/L. would have went home but I need to hit the  X Hot this week. May just forgo the driver al togehtrer if the 3 wood is all that.

i really didn't like the trinity. for me it launched way to high and had spin like crazy. i was using a 8.5 head with a ss around 115 launch angle 16* and spin around 3800 rpm.

Hit the RFE with the Trinity in a 65 Stiff, expected it to be too soft and spinny.. SS average of 106 my launch was at 10.2 and spin was an average of 1680.  I had the 10.5 head set to open.  I usually play an X stiff (since I am borderline and prefer the control) but the stiff felt great and I really loved the head shaft combo.

I was seeing launch around 11° and spin numbers 2100-2300rpms with the trinity 65-S in a 9.5 RFX. I was thinking it was the best of the NV and RIP Alpha.

The Razor Fit Extreme comes stock with the trinity.  What are the specs of this shaft?  Is it made by aldila because I don't see it listed on their website?  Also the phenom NL isn't either?  Are these Aldila's new shafts for 2013?

I did not care for the Trinity...I tried it  (stiff) in a RFE driver....  I think I like a "firmer" feeling shaft (especially in the hands)... A first waggle, I could tell it wasnt going to be for me... Somebody with a solid tempo, yes indeed!  

Thanks for the info.  I'll be following this thread to see if others have any similar thoughts as I.

Phenom NL is Tour only, but a quite few people here have tried it, I don't think I've seen specs on it though, except that it is low launch low spin:

All the varying results from the Trinity in this thread just show again that SS and flex are not the only factors to determine how a shaft fits a specific golfer. We have higher SS players who hit the Trinity with relatively low spin and vice versa, and all sorts of results in between. It totally depends on how the shaft reacts to your loading and releasing.

OK so I am still waiting on the specs but here is some trackman info from yesterday. I took 10 solid shots from each shaft and these are the averages. I hit all ProV1x golf balls since this is the ball I use.

Trinity 117 swing speed 173.3 ball speed 1.49 smash factor 11.7 Launch Angle 2411spin
Phenom NL 116 swing speed 172.1ball speed 1.49 smash factor 11.2 Launch Angle 2290 Spin

A quick update. I have played two tournament rounds this week with the Trinity and I am even more impressed. I have only missed 3 fairways in 2 rounds and I am hitting it longer then before. This shaft continues to amaze me.

That is impressive.  Aldila has a winner with this one.

I was also skeptical about this shaft when I first heard about it.  I was hitting the Xstiff in the XHot (reg) but I could probably use the Tour X instead.  It felt really good, though.  Like a firmer Voodoo or smoother RIP to me.  

How'd the NL feel compared to the trinity?

Yeah that's pretty much the same feel I got.

The NL feels more like a RIP to Me

I also hit the stock stiff Trinity shaft in the RFE 9.5 head today.  It was a serious spin killer for me also.  For my weak ball speed of 140mph, I was getting 13-14 degree launch and 2100-2300 spin.  I compared my Attas shaft and I was getting closer to 2400-2800 spin with it.  We checked the frequency of the shaft and it cpm to exactly 6.0

About the Phenom NL - is it just the standard Phenom with a stiffened tip, etc? If so, the NL 60 might be really nice. 75 is a little too beefy for a driver shaft for me..

It's slightly stiffer all the way through but much stiffer in the tip and less bisexual feeling then the RIP Alpha

Can anyone comment how it compares to the RIP Beta?

When I first reviewed the comments first thing I thought of was the Beta with a little better feel, I really want to test the Trinity sounds dead in my wheelhouse...BB

I am fan of the Trinity. Very consistent. SS 100 - 103  AA 14.5 Spin was 2450 Carry 240 TD 255. Smash was hideous at 1.2  so the shaft/head combo masks my low straight back over the top flip  well.

Fitter wanted me in Black Tie 7Ms but it just didnt feel the same and felt like work.

Tried the X but couldn't get through it.

Here is my question. Fitter said i could use or benefit from a little more weight in the Trinity S. At 64 grams. How best do yo do that or add shaft weight like 3 or 4 or 5 grams.

Not head weight? Although a weight kit might help? He said shaft weight?

Heavier grip?

I have already picked up the fairway to put in a back up 14* Rapture.
