Phil has said previously that if his family wasn't so entrenched in the San Diego area, they would consider moving to Charlotte. They love the area.

San Diego is just a pretty area but taxes that high are a no go.

Moving to Florida for tax benefit reasons wouldn't surprise me.  For a guy making as much money as he is, there could be a huge savings there.  Retiring seems less likely, though with his psoriatic arthritis, perhaps its possible.

Never knew he had strong feelings about Charlotte...

Yeeeeaaaahhhhh! Cry me a fricken river. I make less than 100,000 a year and am taxed at about 35%. Guy makes over 40 mil a year with endorsements. You can pay me a million or more a year and tax me twice my current rate and I'd do it every day all day! I'm tired of whiny a$$ millionaires! Seriously?!

I need to ask this before its invariably locked (and it will be)... where did you see anything remotely resembling whining?

You too, can get a more competent accountant btw...

Its not the state anymore, imo. He did state Federal but it does not help the numnutzs here in CA do not care anyway as Brown has mentioned, his litmus test with these ever increasing sales tax and state tax increases are the folks in Silicon Valley, so Phil would not count.

Phil is just the tip, everyone making a decent wage in CA would be seriously looking at moving.

It didn't sound like whining to me.  For every action there is a reaction.  Consequently many well to do folks are leaving the state of California.  High cost of living plus high taxes isnt a good mix.  If I could save me and my family boat loads of money by moving I can't say I wouldnt do it as well.

Alaways amazed at posts like this. If someone gave me $40 mil. I'm sure I'd be so overwhelmed with appreciation I'd be willing to give extra to the tax man! LOL! No thanks.

If you believe all the golfers out there deserve what they make then he earned that pay.  Do you think these golfers deserve to be millionaires for having the ability to shoot a 30 on the front nine at the Masters like Phil has?  Dude there is nothing stopping you.  Go to a garage sale and get a set of clubs and go for it like Phil.

Did you read the article?  Do you know what is going on in Calif?  He is in a 62% tax bracket.  That is not taxes that is confiscation and theft by the govt.  The whining millionaires are the double and triple dipper govt workers in California who "retire" with gold plated pensions.  Good luck when CA defaults and the checks stop.

I am amazed Phil stuck around so long in CA with those taxes. Hunter Mahan left years ago.  Phil's family has been there forever and he has more than paid his fair share.  Get out Phil.

I know lots of people making a decent wage that have seen tax increase after tax increase, the services suck, schools are over run, crime, foreclosure, basically California is a mess. Slowly they have been moving out. I doubt the increase of 5% of state tax is the primary reason, I'm sure Pm has n vestment properties that are effected more.

I don't blame Phil. 62% taxation would have me looking at relocation.

A question as to how pros are paid and taxed  As traveling contractors, are players earnings taxed in the state that the tournaments are held, or does the PGA pay out and you're taxed at your home state's rate.

People are leaving and it is expensive to live here. California is still in the top 10 largest economies in the world. Crime rate is down again, not up, at least in Los Angeles. As for the Texas complaint, a lot of your growth is from tech business being moved from here, California. Austin has been largely influenced from this states lifestyle, look at the demographics. Great city by the way!

Phil is an entertainer/pro athlete. There is a lot of money to be made here. Just look at how celebrities move real estate and make serious money off those investments. They are still here.

There is more to the story than just taxes. Maybe KPMG has not let them in on other multi millionaires secrets.

Haha!

If Tiger said the same thing

He'd get riiiiiipped!

But, its Phil.

So its okay.

No heart, all the talent in the world but no heart.

Spoiled, blows a major so he can indulge in hitting driver

Talks about hurting himself because the rough is too thick

And now, is he really crying about his taxes

Phil

No clue
