Mid way through my round yesterday, I happened to notice these "abnormal" markings on the face of my razr fit.  They don't look like ball marks that I have seen in the past. They look like cracks on a wind shield. Is there a clear coat on the face?  Pics are included.  It's hard to show in the pics from the iPhone but the easiest marks to see are in the top right of the sweet spot designs.  Let me know what you guys think or if you have seen similar markings.

The feel of the club seemed a bit off yesterday but it could be my rustiness and mental side of things after finding the "cracks."

Thanks for your input.

Pics are hard to tell. Could be ball marks. Have you noticed any difference in impact sound or ball flight? If it is cracked Callaway will replace.

were u hitting range balls by chance. Some ranges use golfballs that r so freaking hard they put blemishes on clubs. I would call Callaway and see what they say. I have always had great exp. with Callys CS department.

Here's a close up and hopefully better picture. The sound does seem off a bit and my distance was off as well.

Usually when this driver cracks it is within the composite crown.  I have returned a couple of these and have never had the titanium crack.

From the pics it looks like scratches or pitting from debris between the ball and the face.  A crack will be a little more noticeable.

Stick it in a bucket of water. If it bubbles from the scratch it's cracked, if it doesn't bubble it's fine.

Mines like that. Mostly from range balls. It's no crack.

Check it with a credit card to see if the bulge and roll are still as they should be.  I had a Razr Hawk Tour that had a mark like that from my testing it in the store before i bought it and when I checked it out at home I found that there was a flat spot about an inch in diameter. When it hit it I just thought it felt weird and would yield some bizarre looking shots that were only slightly mishit.  Mine was about a half inch out from the sweetspot where I think the face is thinner.  I guess these are drawbacks of variable face thickness...they don't stand up to being mishit hard.

Your marks look similar to mine based on the picture... kind of like a shattered windshield pattern on the surface?  Its not a typical crack like you normally see along weld lines but the face is compromised.  It will not bubble when you put it in water as it is probably not bad enough for that.

If you find it is flat call Callaway...they replaced mine without incident and upgraded me to a Whiteboard as it took a while to find a low lofted head!

The cracked wind shield look describes it pretty well. Not sure if its flat though. Ill have to check on that.  These marks have me thinking about the quality of the head though. I noticed a seam on the crown when I first got it and have not seen the same seam on the ones in the stores. Looks like its where two different material pieces meet between the crown and face.

Pics of seam...

I had the same thing on the face of my FT Tour and Raze Fit. I was concerned at first but it didn't seem to affect the performance at all. I checked out my friend's FT Tour and his had it as well. Like a clear coat or something. Could not see it on the black face of my RF TA though which is weird. As far as the seam, both of my Razr Fits had the same thing. I wouldn't worry about it.

That seam would have me worried cause thats where the two composite materials meet.

If you could afford the downtime and send it to Callaway I wouldn't be suprised they sent you a new one.

And no I don't have that seam.

The seam is normal - all razr fits have them and the marks on your club face are from hitting sandy or dirty golf balls. Case closed

All RF definitely do not have that seam. I have yet to see another with it after looking in several stores.

Whether or not there is a real problem (I suspect not), it is clearly in your head.  May as well move on and get it replaced or buy a new driver. No sense spending the year wondering/blaming/excusing.

The seam is hard to see as you have to hold it up in the light just right to see, it's just where the composite crown meets the ti. There's nothing wrong with it & my Razr Fit Extreme has it, again I have to look close & hold it at the right angle to see it. As far as the face cracked, def not... just looks like ball marks from dirty range balls. Sounds like you really wanna get rid of the Fit for something else. If your convinced something's wrong with it send it to Callaway, if they do replace it it's probably not late enough to get them to send you a Razr Fit Extreme but if they send a new Razr Fit you can always trade it for something else.

Just started wearing glasses actually. Checked again and no the RFs at Edwin Watts do not have the seam. Thanks for your advice though.

I really like the driver and I think the consensus is that it's fine. Sent cally an email to make sure but either way this topic provided some constructive inputs. Thanks.

I have two RAZR fits, both have the seam as apparent, and both crank the ball.

Not saying its not normal, but I haven't seen another, at least around here. The guys I spoke to in the PGA superstore actually told me it was a cosmetic defect and they would send it back. Could be a distribution thing since I'm in FL and you're in Chicago. Again thanks for your input.

It does crank the ball. Ill be keeping it until the face does crack or I can get my hands on a fit extreme or if the hype around the covert is legit.

T_B,

Thrillhouse's bubble test is what we used at EW when I worked there.  Need to lay off the driver at the FWB and BWB range, lol.

Not cracked.  It is absolutely from sandy/rough golf balls at the range. No need to worry man.

Or could be the alpha case in which it will not effect performance.
