Who is the best overall shooter in the NHL today in all aspects? I have narrowed it down to 3 in my opinion and I am curious what you think.

Zdeno Chara.  Why have a second and third?  Sure he may not hit the net, but I bet you won't try to get in front of the puck either.

Chara's shot is just hard. That's it. I'm not all that impressed by it. It's hard because he's 19 feet tall. That being said, I'd be the first one to get the hell out of the crease when he winds up.  Stamkos is deadly. Crosby's shot is deceptively so good it looks below average. Datsyuk is just a sick, sick devil possesed psycho. You never know what or where the hell his shot is coming from. When he comes in on a goalie, the goalie is absolutely helpless.

Overall best shooters in my opinion
1. Kovalchuk
2. Stamkos
3. Malkin

Stamkos was near 20% for all the points he gots , so stats woulds say him.

I like Eberle too , and Sidney is one of best clutch players in league and underrated in shooting i thinks.

However , coulds say Giroux coulds become one of the best . And Zetterberg is pretty handy when he wants to be.

Ovechkin when he goes for it has a crazy hard shot .

I woulds say too hard to really say who is best.

He has such a huge reach , it woulds be hard not to be a decent defensemen. Okay captain maybe , but he is not even close to Lidstrom was.

Malkin, Stamkos, and Rick Nash. I don't what order to put them in. Maybe stamkos leads because of being on the top of the goals list.

My beef with Nash is that he takes longer to load up his wrist shot a his slapper isn't as powerful as he looks.

Chara doesn't even have the best slap shot in the league. Sure it is hard but he is inaccurate. I wouldn't rate him in my top 10 slap shots in the league

Being a Detroit fan and living in Michigan, I must say I think Zetterberg is hugely overrated. He is smart and a great playmaker but he doesn't add much offensively when he isn't playing with Datsyuk. Claude Giroux is one of my absolute favorite players. I knew he was going to be a special player when I first saw him play a few years ago. He has the skill to take a game over

Zetterberg isn't one of the top 2 shooter on his team. I'd put Franzen ahead of him (when he wants to shoot) then Bertuzzi and maybe even Kronwall.

Are we talking slapshot, wristshot or just overall? Stamkos has the best wrist/snap shot in the game and the best since Sakic. Others might have harder slap shots, or what not but quickest release, accuaracy and sniping ability is Stamkos all the way?

I can't put any of the currents in front of Kovalchuk. He is effortless with every shot and he has crazy velocity on everything. I'd like to see hardest wrist shot competition in an All star skills competition.

I asked a buddy of mine who is a trainer for an NHL team and his answer was:

1. Stamkos
2. Ovechkin (just because he shoots all the time, even during practice)
3. Giroux (check out his pp goal from a couple nights ago)

Sakic had a sic wicked wrister. He'd get it off so quick in traffic and just leave defenseman and goalies like WTF just happened? He was known for being so picky about his sticks. He would literally just take a small file and just remove less than a millimeter off the end of sticks to get them to feel just right.

Sakic had a great wrist shot, but modano's was better.  

I'm going in a different direction, especially after seeing him in action for 2 nights this past weekend.  His legs feet aren't as quick, and his legs aren't as strong.  But Jagr still has the hands.  He's scary good still.

Markus Naslund , who i feels was underrated , had one of best wrist shots i thinks while he was in league. And just lots of skill.

And was classy captain like a Sakic and Modano. Especially giving backs money to Rangers by retiring , which is pretty rare in sports.

#1, I was VERY jaded about the lockout and during the last one it took me 3-4 years to get back into the game I was so irked.  I have watched all 3 Bruins games so far and I f'n LOVE it !!!!!!!!!!

I'm on the fence with the Chara debate,  I grew up in the Ray Bourque era who was my fav player growing up.  I played hockey for 10 years, most of it as a defenseman.  I was the tall, not fast, hard shot type.  How I VIEW a defenseman is effectiveness not skating/stickhandling.

In his prime Jagr was one of the most feared snipers in the league,  ask him who the hardest defensemen for him to play against and it was Hal Gill.  He is 6'7 250+ lbs lump of a tree.  I think Chara does the same thing to players.  he is just in their way, leads a good PP, and from the blue line players fear getting in way of that slap shot of his.   That is how I played, just be a royal pain in the other player's way which is what my job was.

Now back to the OP's question, the players that make ME nervous on a 2 on 1 against us.

-Stamkos & St. Louis
-Crosby & Malkin
-Gaboric (scored a hat trick on us last night!)
-Ovechkin is just too skilled

Ray Bourque is *miles and miles and miles* ahead of Chara.

If they are nots in the East Coast media radar or in Detroit , Toronto , Montreal , the players are always overlooked. I am a Canucks fan , and Henrik & Daniel Sedin are barely noticed over here , but if they were on the Rangers ,  good griefs.   Iginla i have watched for many games ands is a high skilled overlooked player as well. Kipprusoff is ignored , Joe Thornton is constantly blamed for bads Sharks goalies in playoffs or Marleau , Heatley , defense , etc stinking it up.

Could go on and on with examples.

Ovechkin still has his shot , the Capitals system is what changed him some. Not sure what they are runnings this year. And Crosby i would possibly rank as best overall shooter if you counts *clutch* moments. Or at least close.
