Fantastic move by Titleist letting Rory McIlroy sign with Nike. It costs them nothing (saves money in fact) and I like millions of others are now off to buy new Titleist equipment. Superb.

Rory says he is hitting the new driver miles further. I'll let the rest of you finish that sentence for him.

I wonder how many more Majors both Rory and Tiger would have one with Titleist equipment?

I guess Rory will be up there now with Tiger and Lance Armstrong as another Nike Marketing Coup. After all, no such thing as bad publicity eh?

Tiger has done pretty well with Nike equipment so far, and Im sure Titleist did not want Tiger to leave. Rory only time will tell. And I remember Tiger ditching his Nike driver to bring out his old Titleist driver for a few rounds before Nike had him comfortable with their driver.

It's not the equipment.  Rory needs to get serious about golf.  You don't take months off and jet set with your new girlfriend and expect to play well.  If I just gave someone $200 million, I sure as heck would make sure their head and game was ready for the world stage.  This won't hurt Nike or help titleist in the long run....but it was a mistake.

Why was this topic labeled "New Titleist Marketing Campaign". Im confused.

Nike has done fantastic with Tiger and even better with Lance. They made a bicyclist cool and made millions off him and they wont have to give that back. Unlike all those yellow jerseys that are gonna disappear from him basement.

In the meantime, Russ Henly is busy making hay for Nike.  In Rory's defense, when I was his age I probably would have thought I could have switched out a whole bag and not skipped a beat.

Faldo said last night that McIlroy should have eased into it and not replaced all 14 clubs and ball at the same time.  That is probably a good idea.

Everybody deserves an off season, and golf doesn't have one.   IMHO, it's fine for Rory to put the clubs away for a while and come back a little rusty as long as he's focusing on being in prime condition for the big tournaments coming up (majors, WGC, etc.)

I think we should get used to this, since the PGA Tour has decided to not have an off season and to run year-round.   Big name pros will create their own off-season and schedule their games to peak accordingly.

We all understand this but when Nike makes such a big Hoop La with the introduction to him joining Nike & him talking all smack that he did about his driver & putter etc etc & how he shot his worse score there on day one so yea stick up for him but he went all about it the wrong way. It's even funnier to see the new Nike commercial & how both he & Tiger were able to hit there drivers & how lousy they actually did & it cost Tiger for being able to play the weekend. I think its a big embarrassment for Nike

The clubs are not the difference here I'm sure they made them to the exact spec of his old stuff.  It's the ball I tell you.  And he could just be having an off week it happens you know

Dufner....

They have plenty of big names, but obviously it would be nice to still have Rory.

There's a lot of doom and gloom for Rory doing something he did last year five times and in worse fashion, flame out of a tournament. It's as if this is something new for Rory. It's the same as people telling Woods to go back to his Scotty Cameron putter because he's putting 'lousy' with it when the fact is his putting went down south WHILE he was using the Scotty Cameron.

This is a Titleist thread if I'm not mistaken. I just re-read the thread title and yep, it says Titleist. And reading these forums I see far more people saying Nike can do no right than people saying Nike can do no wrong.

I don't think anyone is disputing what you just posted.  You are just getting a bit too defensive and taking things too seriously.  Cheers, mate.

The Titleist love fest baffles me some times.  I think they are a solid OEM and make a very good product. I can also see why some people are drawn to their no nonsense traditional marketing style.  The problem is that fan boys seem to think that playing Titleist means that you are some kind of "serious" golfer who won't fall for stupid endorsements and childish crown graphics.  Again, I am not a Titleist hater or Nike lover or any other type of OEM loyalist (although Bridgestone and Adams have been giving me a lot of bang for my buck lately).  I just think it is crazy that some people are so dogmatically loyal to particular OEM's, as if they are following a sports team or a political party or something.

Have you already forgotten the little drought that Rory experienced in 2012? And how did that end? I agree with Faldo, and maybe Titleist was a better fit, but I'm sure this is nothing that should concern any of us.

Wow...I'm sure glad Rory never missed a cut, faced a slump or had a Major meltdown with his Titleist equipment.   EVERYONE would be saying how terrible TItleist equipment is.

Some threads really stretch their assumptions...the latest ones about how much more Rory (or Tiger) would have succeeded had he (or they) stayed with Titleist is beyond silly.

guess it was a snow day in Cheltenham today.

Thorbjorn Olesen switched from Titleist to Nike and he's currently joint 2nd so i suppose he would have been a clear leader if he hadn't switched.
