the oddest story ever told. this will be more interesting than the tiger thing, if for the sheer peculiar nature of it. what motivation would there be?

Listening to the story on ESPN right now.  It is the strangest thing I have ever heard.  If the point wasn't to try and splash his personal information across some tabloid what then?  Sheer humiliation?  This is out there for sure........

I can't help but wonder if he was behind it still and just made the whole thing up..... just read the deadspin story... just wow...

He knew the whole time, but used it for Heisman votes and such. Too bad he was exposed in the National Title game and will slide in the draft, along with Jarvis Jones sliding higher and higher. And he's not playing in the senior bowl... Wonder if this is why?

Crazy.....  I've actually been into the show catfish lately just because it's weird how people can be so messed up.

This is a strange story.  Tough to believe that the whole ND season was basically built on a lie

He'd be taken off my draft board. The lockerroom harassment, snide comments, general ill feelings to such a slime ball would lead to a bad team environment.
Guys can be pretty brutal about this type of action.
It would not surprise me to almost see him blackballed in the NFL.

What a dbag... Based on the dead spin article and a lot of the time line they put together (taking all of the hearsay out of it and looking purely at the timing of the tweets, insta, FB, etc) there is no way Man'ti wasn't in on this... Heck his family had to be in it...

Eh whatever ND will be back to irrelevancy next year and all will be right

Doubtful remember this is the same league that at least two players have killed someone and still played.

A scout was asked what this would do to his draft stock and he laughed and said nothing...."We draft bank robbers and all sorts of shady characters"  lol nice.

On the bright side with Manti Te'o, at least his last relationship was better than any relationship Taylor Swift has ever had.

My jaw was on the floor while reading. This is absolutely insane. The interwebz be crazy.

Not sure if this update was on the page when you guys read it last night. But, Te'o actually responds admitting it was a hoax.

Update (6:10 p.m.): Manti Te'o's statement:

This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online. We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her. To realize that I was the victim of what was apparently someone's sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating. It further pains me that the grief I felt and the sympathies expressed to me at the time of my grandmother's death in September were in any way deepened by what I believed to be another significant loss in my life. I am enormously grateful for the support of my family, friends and Notre Dame fans throughout this year. To think that I shared with them my happiness about my relationship and details that I thought to be true about her just makes me sick. I hope that people can understand how trying and confusing this whole experience has been. In retrospect, I obviously should have been much more cautious. If anything good comes of this, I hope it is that others will be far more guarded when they engage with people online than I was. Fortunately, I have many wonderful things in my life, and I'm looking forward to putting this painful experience behind me as I focus on preparing for the NFL Draft.

^^I agree that he likely knew what was going on. Heck, even some of his close friend/family said that they were 80% sure that Manti Te'o knew it was all BS.

Did Deapspin break the story? If so, good for them!
