UPDATE:

Well he's not nearly as competitive as I thought

I'm putting like an imbecile though , I can't get used to these greens and I'm nervous as hell

Never text when golfing with the father-in-law.

Hit on the cart girl and makes lots of off color comments and drink allot. Call at least 3 penalties on him.

That should work out well...

That is what my F-I-L used to do!

Luckily the cart girl wasn't very attractive. She did give me this crazy eye when I bought a coke from her.

I didn't read every post, but "yes sir" and "no sir" are always good answers.

A fellow I played with today said that I guy he regularly played with started to "court" his daughter some years ago. He had a pretty good idea how the relationship was progressing as the gimme putts he got from the other guy kept getting more generous.

So I'm getting ready to play golf with my overly competitive and not very good at golf, future father in law. I shoot mid to low 80's.

I need tips on how to handle this situation!
Do I let him win? I'm not sure how he'll take me beating him.

If you let him win and he later finds out how good you really are he is going to feel really direspected.  And never trust you.  And later testify against  you in any possible subsequent divorce action.  :cheesy:

Although seriously, I never had to face that situation because my F-in-L was dead long before I met my wife.  And I'm pretty sure that even alive he didn't play golf or any other sport.

Beat his a$$ into the ground. He will respect a good competitor. He will loathe a spineless pu$$y that lets him win. This is a chance to prove you are an alpha. Just don't gloat after the win.
Exactly!

And, give him everything inside ................. a foot, not the grip!

I think your future father-in-law has a similar post!

It's entitled...

Haha I thought I updated, but I beat him by about 20 strokes.

It was a nasty day, but it was alot of fun on a fun track. Ill probably ask for his blessing on a golf course.

Look him in the eye when you shake his hand before and after the round.

...and beat him like a drum.  While he may be competitive, he would want a son-in-law he can brag about later when you aren't around.  If you beat him by enough the competitive streak of his is moot.  You're just too good and that flips it into a point he can brag about to his cronies.

(edit) we posted at the same time so I just saw your update - good job!)

To which the obvious answer is.

Make him feel as uncomfortable as humanly possible
