WINTER SUX!

::begin rant::

I haven't hit a ball in almost a month.....

Last winter worked out pretty well. The weather was milder, there was very little lingering snow.

If that's what global warming promises, then sign me up!

This December started out pretty good, warm weekends, we were able to get out at least once a week up until Mid December.

I thought, yippee, here we go again. Perhaps another 12 contiguous months of (local) golf!

Then, the wheels fell off.

It snowed, got cold, packed into an icy ground blanket and it looks like it's gonna stick around.
  • Good News: Forecast high temperature tomorrow in the 60's!
  • Bad News: What isn't snow-pack, is mud!
I will hit the phones though to see if any of the dog tracks might be open. After all, I am a desperate mudder!

My only carrot on a stick is the Boy's trip to Myrtle Beach in March. If I don't die from cabin fever, I'll tee it up in a minimum of 8 weeks. I hope you guys in warmer climates are having fun....because right now, I hate you! j/k (not really)

::end rant::

I feel your pain, we have cold and wet here, and regardless of what people thing, it is as bad as cold and snow for the most part. Tomorrow +2*C, so most greens will be frozen solid for a large part of the day.  Too afraid to hit my woods at the range for fear of caving in a club face. In fact 2*C will have me at home watching the Sony Open at most. Good news is that we should be able to start venturing out (albeit with Michelin Man clothing and golf balls plugging galore) by mid February. Last time I said that we got a huge dump of snow which took forever to melt!

Last year early on in the season, when wet like this, Cedarbrook was open. Although when I drove by there on Wednesday, it looked like a mudfield/snow....

If you ever need someone to tee it up with, hit me up....I live near Irwin, but play all over....

Nice picture.

I haven't played a round of golf in a while myself. Though I do have a range where I can hit golf balls.

It's -15 C here, we have a foot and a half of snow already and a snowfall warning for tonight.

I don't even have anything funny to say about it, winter sucks!

Oh, my bad, it was 81* and sunny today : (

The only bad thing is the rates went up a couple of bucks as the snow birds arrived.

I hear ya.. kinda. It's funny that you wrote this today and I just came back from the range (TopGolf). It was about 75 degrees and sunny today and I am off work all next week with tee times everyday. Sorry for those living where you can't golf year round.

Next year I will have this same issue but right now I'm looking at half naked girls and watching the Sony Open when I'm not driving the players around.

I have been having a blast as a standard bearer the last couple of days. Haven't been with any noteworthy names, but we still have two more days left, and the weather promises to be outstanding!  Are you playing in the volunteer tournament?

I love it.  Use the 8 weeks to get into shape!

Its a nice break for my hands and feet - my panter faciatis is almost healed and my elbows feel better - Ask me again in feb and Ill be dying to play but the 3 months off is a blessing.  As much as I love golf (I live and die for it) I dont think Id be able to play all year.

Well, it's daylight and looking through the window the only snow I see is the stuff the snowblower piled up.

I'm gonna hit the horn and call some tracks.... Maybe my whining here worked!

We are going through a cold spell in the Palm Spings area too.  Highs are in the mid 50's...had to wear my short sleeve windbreaker yesterday while playing...still wore shorts though.

Back to our normal mid 70's and sunny next week.  This cold weather sucks!

When that's the case, work on your short game as much as you can in your house and take practice swings by a mirror to work on anything you think needs working on (make sure there's nothing valuable near by). Other than that, you just have to play the waiting game and/or buy a bunch of new equipment.

Not much snow here in TN but good grief it seems like it's rained nearly every day since Thanksgiving. I haven't played since before then. What few decent days we have had here, the wife and daughter's schedules haven't worked out for me to go. I'm having golf withdrawals! Only good thing about it has been that the wife hasn't cared about me buying any new golf stuff since I haven't been able to go lately.  :D

Odd winter here in Chicago.  I haven't used snow blower or shovel yet.  I played 9 yesterday at a local muni and it was 50 degrees.  I have only played for 4 years and that is the first January golf for me.

OP Update: Even though no one really cares......

I called a few joints to no avail. I was just about to start washing cars when the phone rang.

My buddy called his buddy who owns a 9 holer nearby, he said, "we're not open, but you guys can play it if you want"!

We quickly rounded up a foursome and off we went.

Got in 12 holes (9 of them as intended, we invented 3 more holes by playing tees to other greens).

Was 8 over for 12 holes with 2 birdies and back to back triples! (for 2013, it's official, I made a birdie before I made a par)

I three jacked the first two holes! I loved every minute!

The weather was unreal, we were down to shirt sleeves midway through number 2. Although some fairways were swamplike, it was great to just be whacking the ball around!

Good news: Won $12

Bad News: Cars are still filthy

Maybe I'll quit whining for a week or two..... :golfer: (probably not)
