Reality seems to be catching up with Tiger.  He's mortal right now and as such must actually win to collect millions.

Good on them for saving $3 million for something else.

More rejections will lower the price.

I think he intended that asking 3m just to show up is "like robbing", not literally robbing

Just so your clear... Clive Palmer is a fat, crazy, white haired, loud mouthed billionaire who is generally passed off like the creepy and crazy uncle you see once a year at Xmas. His 'resort' has also lost all respectability and also the event he was trying to promote. The moron built a life size, robotic replica of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and put it between the 10th and 9th with plans for 150 more. Also wants to build a life size replica of the Titanic called oddly enough "Titanic 2". But if it fits the garbage dribbling from your keyboard... So be it.

Glad to see no one chose to mention that his agent responded saying he was "never contemplating Qatar"... Must be lies... Or is the $3mil lies.

Don't see why every body is freaking out. 3 million is a loti but considering it is the same week as farmers, which is at a place probably very special to him, with a great field, and actually counts as a PGA tour win, if hew were to do so, and is actually in America, asking for a lot of money doesn't seem rediculous. I'm sure he wouldnt be asking for a lot  if the Qatar Masters was a bigger tournement....and wasn't all the way in Qatar. I mean who would wanna go to Qatar rather then just a short jet ride to Torrey. Btw are we really gonna take this loonys word. People now adays will believe any negative thing said about tiger woods.

Apparently you missed the story 7 months ago about Phil Mickelson's legal team going after a Canadian online golf forum user for posting slanderous statements about Mickelson's wife.

1. Since we live in a capitalist, free market economy, the man's "work" is worth whatever people choose to freely PAY.  He asked for $3 million.  The parties being negotiated with said "No, thank you."   That is how FREE MARKETS work.

2. Statistics show that most men eventually wind up cheating on their wives at some point in their marriages.  So your point is, what exactly?

3. Your last statement says more about you, than it does about him.

But Tiger has never played in this tournament nor was he considering playing in it. I wonder will they continue to write these type of articles when Tiger doesn't play in a tournament he's never played in?

Nothing to see here. At this point in his career, he probably isn't worth a 3 million appearance fee.  Another Major and he may be.  Appearance fees are investments.  The ROI for Tiger on an investment that high probably does not make sense right now in Qatar. Dubai may be a different story.

Is someone here saying that Tiger cheats at golf? Outside of that rock, which was by the letter of the rules, I can't remember any valid complaints.

Make it ( 3 million) up in ticket sales for  tiger just show up, what planet are you from. Based on 100,000 paid ticket holders that would mean 30 dollars for each and every ticket would be exclusively for Tiger woods- just to show. And that would be just to break even.

This would not include any additional security and other ammendities, ranging from helicopters pad usage to palace suites for Sean Foley.

Its not surprising he was told to go pound sand ( pun intended) what is surprising is some folks on this board when it comes to an understanding how businesses operate, money is not printed, it is made.

Now tigers camp releases a statement that Qatar wasn't even being considered , reminds me of when your first girlfriend turns you down for a date. " I didn't want to go out with that skank"

He so full of  s**t

At the end of the day, it's his money.  If he doesn't want to pay he doesn't have to.  It's a business arrangement, not charity.  And for heaven's sake people, Tiger's not the first to cheat on his spouse, and he certainly won't be the last.  He's just has one of the highest profiles.  I personally know an NFL player that did and he's fighting like crazy to keep it quiet.  Money and fame does funny things to people.

This pretty much sums it up.

It's amazing how quickly people jump to his defense on this (14 majors vs zero? really?).

There's no denying he fails to move the needle like in years gone by. It's no slight on him or his past accomplishments- just a bit of reality.

If he feels it's not the wisest business decision, so be it.

Obviously you, yourself do not understand how businesses operate either...

Even't don't make much of anything from ticket sales, that amounts to hardly anything in terms of the money invested in a tournament.  It's the sponsors and outside agencies that are tied into an event that profide the dollars to fund these things.  And guess what, those dollars get a lot bigger when you have headliners liek Rory, Tiger, Phil and the like show up.

You really honestly think that ticket sales even come close to supporting these 5 million dollar purses that are out there for these events?  Before you start critisizing "members of this board", please, feel free to educate yourself on the matter first before trying to talk about others.

Do you have any idea how many events pay out appearance fees to players?  If it wasn't a good payout for them, do you really think they would bother with it?  They are in the business of making money, so I am pretty sure they have a little better understanding of what is beneficial and what isn't.

So the "not worth $3mil" tag line is in context for any future posters who want to sprout off, the quote actually said that it is not worth paying 3mil to Woods when the tournament prize money is $2.5mil, which is just good business sense. Why spend more for one player than what the rest of the field is competing for? Is he going to generate 3 million on his own for the tournament sponsors? Arguable either way.

I just find it hard to believe that anyone is worth essentially winning the lottery every time they tee it up. I'd love to see the Tiger of old, but the truth is, he is not it. He is very good, but not dominate. He  may be worth a million, but the prestige of Tiger has worn off.
