Hey,

It seems like with the new drivers coming out like the R1, the R11s and other drivers from last year are going on sale for pretty good prices.  Being a mid handicapper, do you think it would be a good idea to go with these.  I am looking for adjustability.  I have a swing speed of around 105-110 and my 8 iron is my 150 yard club.  Any recommendations?

I'm not one to guess what you would need blind...
I do know at our club, they have 910's with choice of shafts for $175-$195 brand new
They ordered too many 8.5's, & I'm one of the few "players" at our club (2.2 index with par 72 & 68 rating)
So I'm going to grab 1 or they will just sit there...
So your answer would be YES!!
There are many GREAT deals out there right now...
Another local golf store just lowered all G20 drivers $100!!

I just got a razr fit for a decent price. I'm usually a year late on drivers but technology isn't improving by leaps and bounds anymore so you aren't losing too much

Just ordered up Ping G20. I wanted to find out what all the hype is about. Boy this thing is straight. I didn't have enough money to get exotic shaft put in but I chose what felt the best and have me a good numbers. Surprisingly it's very low spin head and shaft combo.

That's usually how you find the best deals. Still great equipment just a year old. Would recommend titleist 910 as well.

$100 for that club is an absolute steal. I would buy two at that price all day long

EDIT: Please shoot me a PM if the store selling G20's for $100 will sell one online. That's a deal that's simply too good to pass up

Just because it is a year older, doesn't mean it all of a sudden doesn't work.  There are great deals to be had out there as the major OEM's are putting forth a pretty big year with all the new releases.  Do demo a bunch and see what works best for you.

Cleveland Classic 290 is a great driver.  I got one with an upgraded shaft (cannot remember which Kaulsa it is) for $150.  The shaft cost more than that new.  Very straight driver.

Yeah, they are. Just not as good as those from 2yrs ago. Let's face it, the OEMs are looking to get the most they can from the hype of the new stuff. It ALL drops in price as the years go by and even though they always claim more distance from the newer models the older ones don't lose any! Not to mention, the distance increases for the new stuff are often are negligeable and sometimes non-existent! I have several drivers (like most WRXers) and there really isn't much difference in all of them from my old Cobra Deep Face to my Razr-Fit! I just keep them cause I like all of them. I think my all time favorite is my 975 LF-E 8.5 with GD YS+ 8.1 S, I can hit it as far as any of the others and it's close to 7 or 8 yrs old. Got that one for about $80 in '07. Grab all the deals you can. Just cause it's not new to everyone doesn't mean it's not new to you!

BT

BTW, the best deal I found this year is a Cleveland Classic 310 head for $80 which I shafted with a Ti shaft from years gone by. Very solid!!

Yeah I always get excited this time of year, as this is when I can usually find my clubs. As others said I never buy new, always buy a year or 2 old. Brand new and great price. In about a month is a golf show near me that I always go to. I am hoping to score a great deal on a razr fit and razr fit 3 wood. I can't wait for another year when the MP 59's and the new X Forged go down in price. One of them will replace my '09 X Forged that I bought brand new in box and plastic off the bay for $255 last March. No need to have the latest and greatest.....

I agree, this club is solidly in my bag this year.  I just put a RIP alpha in it, can't wait for spring!

Sorry for the lack of correct explanation...
Local shop lowered price $100....
So I'm sure they are $199 due to Ping's MAP

More like a lack of reading comprehension on my part. I guess I got too excited about a deal too good to be true
Still, $200 for the G20 is a good price. The G25 looks great, but I can't see it being worth almost twice the price of the G20

If you are trying to bring your spin down, go demo a Fast 12 LS. All COR must be equal, but not aerodynamics. See if you pick up a few MPHs along the way.

I went with the Razr fit as well. Picked it up with a free 3 wood for $187 on a Black Friday deal. Not sure about the 3 wood yet, still love my G15 4 wood. I have yet to buy a driver while it was "new".  Love buying them a year late.

Distance gains will be a result of the fitting. If the older model fits you, it will match the new offerings.

i really wanted to get a Cleveland Classic but there just wasn't any good ones at the demo sales. All the Golftowns clear out all their demo drivers at  $100 each on Boxing day. There were tons of Titleist 910  D2, Adams fast 12, and callaway Razr Black drivers. I almost got a D2, then  but went back a day later.  Most  of the demos were marked back up to  150 - 250 so I bought nothing.

i ended up buying a NIke VR-S on Ebay about a week later, hopefully it will show up next week. I'll be reshafting it with an Aldila Rip 60 alpha.

I agree about the G20 but I thought the R11s was terrible. One of the worst feeling drivers that I have hit.

I know you want adjustable, but the Cleveland Classic 290 is one of the best drivers made in my opinion.  I owned a RBZ tour and the adjustability didn't help me.  Sold it and bought a Classic for only $130!  I have seen them as low as $100 during black friday type deals.

Man, if there was EVER a year that "last year's" clubs are worth it, it's now.  The G20, i20, 910, Fast 12, and R11S...discounted?  Hell, even the VR Ltd. and the Cobra offerings were great.

Go hit em all, laugh to the bank, and enjoy the extra 2-3 boxes of balls you are now able to buy :)
