With the wide variety of wood coloring options, which OEM will be the first to change their iron colors? WIll an OEM go outside of their norm and introduce an iron with an entirely new paint job...on the face and sole?

Maybe it's far-fetched...maybe it isn't even possible...maybe it is. Who the hell knows!

It's just a thought...

If they can do Black they can do other colors, just not sure who would actually buy them.  I know I wouldn't.

Everyone was saying that about the white drivers. Now every OEM just about offers a driver in every color of the rainbow.

Well.......currently we have
black
chrome
bronze/becu
satin
steel

all kinds of colored badges in large cavities as well so I dont see it too far flung to do a very soft iron blue/silver patina to test out and go from there?

I hope they stick to decorating the cavities and leave the metal alone.  BTW, I saw the new Cobra Baffler hybrid irons recently and those clubs and headcovers are by far the prettiest eye candy I have seen in a long time. If I ever bought a set of shovels based on looks, these would be them. :nyam:

Feel did it with their wedges, not a hit. whether it was the color or not who knows. But if they do, I'd put money on TM or Cobra being the next to do so. I really don't see it happening though, even the PVD/Black doesn't seem all that popular compared to chrome/satin.

Personally I'm waiting for irons with the ability to swap shafts and adjust lie angles.  R11 started with the sw, but I would like to see some of the driver fitting/adjustability elements worked into irons more then the colors.  I have been wondering the same thing though.

Feel = zero staffers on tour

They'll be a hit once the staffers put them in play

It's just a thought...

Those irons and wedges which have a dark finish from finish options such as melonite, QPQ, gunmetal, are in essence a form of the golf industry offering a different color for the body of the iron.  Just look at any of these after you play and hit balls for a year or hit sand shots and you can see the color dissipates a lot.  And these are all color finishes that impregnate into the steel of the iron head.

Paint does NOT like divot taking, sand on range balls, sand traps, especially if you put the paint on the sole and face.  So don;t hold your breath when it comes to seeing different PAINT finish irons in the future.  Paint in areas that never touch the ground or get blasted by sand during a bunker shot might happen, but you will not see paint finishes on the sole or face because they just will look terrible in a short period of time.

Agree with Tom.

Woods and hybrids have a top surface that lends itself to this. but when it comes to parts that meet ball or turf (or dirt/sand/pebbles) it's black or bare metal.

Given the claims TM's made about the benefits of white over the last few years does anyone not think they would have had a set of white irons if it could have been done at an acceptable cost/quality level?

A company already tried this in wedges as said above few posts.....feel wedges...I am looking at a golfwarehouse magazine right now and looking at them on sale for 49.95 in yellow green and blue! Vokey has done the purple looking color and indigo blue ....but those look a lot nicer! I think in time it will come out..and another said companies have done this and mentioned becu coloring but that is a copper finish....I thought the question at hand was directed towards like crayon looking colors such as the feel wedges which I have never seen 1 person game nor own!

After finally having satin (brushed steel) irons, I really can't see myself digging anything shiny. Maybe Raw or torched.

Not a huge fan of black, the second it sees sand, it starts looking funky.
