Been going through a bad putting spell for a couple of years and not sure which direction to go next. holding me back from getting my hcp down from 9, 35 putts this weekend :russian_roulette:

Have had a couple of lessons but working on certain techniques has ruined my feel, even when I was stroking it bad at least I could feel a few into the hole. I used to pull short putts especially with a face balanced and now I'm using crank neck I seem to be missing left and right. Really don't think the crank neck is for me.

Been through about 6 putters in last 2 years, currently gaming a Nike Method Midnight 006 and had a Method 005 before as I love the feel and distance control.

So i don't know where to go next, there are two pros in the our club pro shop, one says Classic 8802 as there is nothing to complicate the stroke and the other says XG 7, two pros complete opposite opinions.

What do you guys think?

Ps. Got a friend who is a real hacker but holes everything from 10 meet with a Ghost Spider, that would be a last resort!

Do you really think it's the equipment rather than the operator that's the problem?  If so, I would spend some money on an edel putter fitting before you purchase anything.  They'll help you figure out which type of putter you AIM best - that's half the battle right there when it comes to short putts.

If you're open to the suggestion that it may be the stroke rather than the equipment, I'd head to the putting green with a video camera and some impact tape.  Spend some time figuring out WHY you're missing short putts.  This is what I'd do before spending on a new flat stick or fitting.

Obviously I have a poor stroke but I am also looking for something that suits me and like you said need something that I can AIM correctly and put a consistent stroke on. I have read conflicting articles regarding eye dominance and aim with different putters, I am really right eye dominant, and some sources say I would be better off with no offset rather than crank neck.

You have a putter, so spend the money on an indoor green. Putting with the kids is fun and time well spent. Maybe even get the wife involved.

Try a taylormade spider vicino, long single line alignment aid, comes in bent shaft heel or center shaft no offset, it has worked well for me. You can get one fairly cheap off eBay now to try.

You sound like the perfect candidate for one of these http://www.medicus.com/overspin.php

Actually if you wanted to lower your handicap id recommend getting a better set of irons so  you can hit every green.  18 GIR and 35 puts is one under par.

try the #7, those seem the easiest to visually see the line.

Any mallet should help.  Just sold my Nome and gonna get an Odyssey #7 or V-line when they come out here soon.  When I used an 8802 style I felt I struggled more with 6-8 footers but had much better control hitting it close from long range.  With a mallet, I'm better from closer but struggle some from a distance.

There is no single putter that works best for short putts.  You need a putter that works with your posture and your vision.

BTW - The idea that a large putter with a large sightline works best for alignment for everyone is a fallacy.  Studies prove that many people have better vision and aim with no alignment device at all.

I would suggest you get in contact with Bruce Rearick of Burnt Edges Consulting.  He could get you on the right track.

I'm have a really dominate right eye as well and always lined up my putts to the right.  I used a 2-ball for a couple of years and it really helped correct my alignment.  The best thing was when I started drawing a line on the ball with a sharpie and aiming it on my intended line.  I use blade putters now because I like the look better and taught myself correct aim, but the 2-ball was a great putter and teaching tool for me.

The two ball. I always feel I am lined up correctly then should I misfit the put slightly it still has a chance of dropping

I know that they are banned in 2016, but my spider belly is money! I'm making so many more putts, the 5 footers feel like tap ins now. If nothing else, they make a good training aid.

Good thing about the spider is that the belly and standard are the same weight if I'm not mistaken, so when the ban goes into effect, cut it down and it won't be crazy heavy

Seemore FGP really helped me.  It seems any Seemore would help given the RST.  It helps you square the club face

Not sure if you are willing to try a different stroke but I recently started trying this method for putting with great results. Putts roll true and distance control has been excellent.

yeah i am historically not a very good putter especially from short distances such as 6 to 8 feet, but belly putters are awesome for this. I used one early last year to practice and get a feel for the stroke then switched to a standard putter. 6 footers were very easy after the practice.

I'm with 502 on both counts, Bruce talks a lot of sense, he teaches an understanding of your stoke and what will make it work for you

As for alignment, just spotmark on your intended line and then let the putt go, it simple.  Face angle at impact has a lot less effect than swing path you only need to look at my gamer to know that.

3 ball SRT .....I hate how it looks, but I can't hit short putts off line with it.

I'm pretty sure that where the face is aimed controls roughly 80% of where the ball goes?

I use a grip very similar to webb simpson for short puts that I for sure need to get on line, left hand low and rock the shoulders. turned every one of my putters into a money making beast. so much better now. I still putt standard from long distances but short ones I switch styles. Knocked at least 5 putts off my round.

Putter wise go for something at either the extreme end of the spectrum- lots of alignment aids, lots of size and lots of weight such as a Ghost Spider S, or the other end of the spectrum- very very simple, no sight line and rely on your feel and instinct. I mix it up between both styles to keep things fresh or if I'm really struggling and it usually helps.
