I'd play there every weekend if I had a resident card.

There's still a few weeks until the tournament so it's not closed up yet. The course is in great condition right now.

Next time for sure. This morning was a last minute thing. I ended up shooting 92 with a birdie on 18. I'm not sure what Jordan shot. I'm going to photobucket all the photographs we took and post the link shortly.

I played it for the first time last march, brought back a lot of memories.  I don't want to remember the 13th though, brutal!   I did eagle the par 5 on the front I think it was 7.   Thanks!

That par 5 is the 6th hole. Was a brute this morning with no role. Just an FYI for anyone looking to play the South between tomorrow and Sunday: the greens are top coated with a sand/salt(not sure of mixture) dressing. Putts still role relatively nicely and smooth but they are top dress no doubt about it.

I'll be done there sooner or later. I have a residence card and play it about 5 or 6 times a year. Usually either right before or after the tourney.

Well if you don't mind playing with a certified hack, let me know when you're in town and let's tee it up on the south.  It was a great walk this morning, especially with practically no one out there.

Thanks for the pics.  They brought back great memories from when my son and I spent 9 days at the course during the 2008 US Open.  I was there over Christmas but had to play the North course.  I was trying to decide if I would be happy playing these courses every day during my retirement as a resident.

Well, I'll pretend that was directed at me (cool)    If not, is it pretty easy to get tee times on the weekend as a single?

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Brings back great memories. I lived in San Diego from 1986-1995 and played Torrey often($14.00 per round on the weekend). I was one of the crew that got there around midnight and gets a number then sleeps in the car and gets up, has a small breakfast around 0500am and gets back in line to see grumpy Bill, the starter. Off around 0630am and enjoyed every minute of it.  Have seen rattle snakes and very low flying f-15's from Miramar and many great views of the ocean and the beach below. What a great Municipal course.  I bet you guys had a great time out there!

That was directed to you and Mark. As long as I don't have work, I am always up for a round of golf with a fellow wrx'er. As for the weekend single, I personally haven't played there on the weekend in over 8 months since My card expired and was married but now the card has been renewed and getting divorced so golf has become my new passion(obsession). I'll let you know sunday because i plan on playing there as a single this sunday. if anyone is interested in joining me, PM me and lets set something up.

Glad you enjoyed the pictures. I definitely couldn't go out there and not take pictures. i figured I would like to have seen the course set up prior to the tourney so I hope everyone enjoys the pictures. I have some from Saturday as well when I played the North Course. If anyone is interested in those pictures let me know and I'll provide a link to the Pictures.

As a single it's no problem, they will get you out but a twosome without a tee time on a busy weekend could take a few hours with no guarantee of playing South.
I personally enjoy North just as much as South though

I played Torrey South several years ago.  Geesh the white tees were 6900 yds plus which is where we played and it was pretty TOUGH.  We played in the winter time and that course played freaking long with the thick rough, cold sea breeze.  I had to hit a 3 wood for a 2nd shot on I think it was the 12 or 13th long arse par 4 after a pretty good drive.  I didn't think under par was out there from the tips under US Open conditions.  Just goes to show how awesome those guys are.

Played Torrey South this past MON 1/7 with my buddy.  They were just putting up the grandstands, etc. Course was in beautiful condition, right after the rain on SUN night.  A little nippy at 6:45 am, but, definately playable.

The whites played a little longer because of the soft fairways and spongey greens didn't roll out.  The course wasn't as hard  as I had imagined.  At a 15 HC, I had a plan and stuck to it on the front 9 and shot 44.  All hell broke loose on the back nine and shot 55.  Broke 100, birdied the scenic #3, par 3, bought my logo polo, and checked the box.

Life is good!
