Offer them your price you are interested in it for. If they scoff at the offer ask them if it was too much or too little?

I'll be the first to say it - they "USUALLY" aren't going to negotiate a whole lot.  They know how much they paid for it, and if it has sat there a few months they will sometimes take what they paid for it just to get rid of it.  If they don't  get what they're asking (or at least what they paid), off to 3balls or wherever it goes.  I will admit it sometimes comes down to "who you know" in the particular store, but even the managers can only do so much.

It's really sad what you get for trade-in value these days due to market saturation and what not, and I can understand that everyone has to make a buck.  But it is the way it is with the popular manufactures coming out with 2/3 iterations of the same model each year.  I'm not bashing TM, Cally, Nike, Adams or what have you, but that's why the Mizzy, Titleist, Ping and the ilk hold their resale value so much better.

Just my 2 cents worth.  And I will add that I just traded a club at GG last weekend for far less than I valued it at, but at least I got instant gratification and didn't have to pay eBay fees only to hold my breath to see if the buyer would b**** about something when they received it, or be low-balled asking for less than the already reduced price I was asking.

I offered them $220 because tat was the absolute best I could do, the putter was on sale for $250 which is $125 more than what they paid for it and $25 more than the PGA resale guide. I though it was very fair but they said no.

I almost never, ever end up buying clubs from GG or Dick's, etc because of lack of negotiation.  There is also a very, very busy driving range with a large pro shop (open all year, 7 days a week) that will not negotiate pricing one cent.  I've bought a few things from them over the years out of pure guilt because there are some decent guys working there, but I don't understand the attitude of not negotiating.  So if I'm looking at a driver for say $399 and you can get it from an authorized dealer on-line for $329, why don't they look at it as still making $130 (assuming their mark-up is 100% for argument's sake) instead of making ZERO?  These guys rifle through my bag when I come in when see a new club and put the guilt trip on me.  I'm the type that wants what I want then and there and hate waiting, so I'll pay an extra $20 if it means I can have it right away, been when you're talking big bucks, I have to err on the side of savings.

I thnk most of us could only dream of paying what these shops pay for clubs.  I think any reasonable shop should know the deal with used clubs.  Old club = just get rid of it and dont lose money.  Anything else = make a small profit to cover costs; hopefully a bit more.

I was in there yesterday and saw the putter you were talking about. They actually paid $150 for it, not $125. And that thing was pretty mint too. In a place like that it will probably sell for $249 eventually. Even if its not this week or the next.

I know Golfsmith will do it, at least I've always had good luck getting them to. They usually pull the price they paid for it and get to it or within $10 of it.

Might be worth signing up for their newsletter on the website.
Usually get a catalogue through from them 3 or 4 times a year with coupons in it.
Usual coupons are $10 off $50, 10% off yellow tagged demo clubs and 15% off orange tagged used clubs. Last batch of coupons expired 12/31.
I would have popped a coupon into the post to you if this had come up before the end of the year.

I actually did recieve those coupons because Golf Mart is apart of the chain that includes Vans golf shops here in AZ. if they send those out again I will definitely be there the next day.
