Has anyone ever talked a golf store down in price on a used club? There is a $250 Scotty that I am kinda keeping an eye on but I think the price is a bit steep. Thanks for your replies and please no trollers I'm sick of y'all. The store is Golf Mart in San Diego.

I know at my work (big box store) there is no negotiating whatsoever. My boss likes his margins way too much. Only time he will hook someone up is if they spend over 2 grand and he gives them 10%off. Also depends on the store manager.

Ask for the manager and tell him you are interested and you know its been there for however long you had your eye on it and if he can do a better price you will take it today.

I know they use the PGA Value guide pricing for trade-ins but they always list item higher than resale price guide.  I'd show them the resale value and stick with that number for your offer.

I have seen at my job (big box store) if its a good customer then they will knock some off. Also ask nicely and do not demand them to and you could get some of it knocked off. Good luck with the Scotty man.

I always do it at Roger Dunn.  If they can do something, theyll do it.  Sometimes stuff just sits around forever so if they can move it by knocking off a few bucks they seem to think nothing of it.

Be careful with used club prices at big box. I was at golfsmith and they had a almost brand new ping wedge for $80 and I went on their website on my phone. The website clearly stated he wedge should only be 45. I told the sales and tool him 20 minutes to confirm the price on the web.

I know last time I traded at Golfsmith here in St. Louis I actually talked them up on the price they gave me for my trade in. I saw what they had a similar used set priced out and convinced the manager that, because of the prices of that set, I should get more credit for my trade in. I also told him I planned on spending all of it and then some in store that day. It ended up getting me an extra $50 or so. I would give it a shot. Also, I know at the Golfsmith I go to they put the date of when the used club was put on the shelf on the price tag. Maybe you could find that and make an argument that it has already been there fo X months without selling. Good Luck. What kind of Scotty is it, if you don't mind me asking?

Sea Mist Del Mar,the only reason I think it's a bit steep is because it doesn't come with a Headcover, and those are a bit pricey.

I love Del Mars. Not the easiest to find in lefty, but like you said, no headcover. I think it really just depends on the manager. If it has been around for a while and you offer to buy it on the spot if they drop it $25 or so, I think that would be a fair deal for both parties.

You can always try again at the end of the month if it is still there. It hasn't even been there for a month yet so they might be hesitant to budge.

They take crap care of there used clubs which really bothers me. They have all their trade-ins and demos in these HUGE staff bag looking things. The first time I stopped in there, one of the employees was looking for a driver for a customer who was talking to him on the phone and he was slamming the driver together like nothing I've ever seen/heard before. It's to bad, hopefully all of the used older models will go on clearance and I'll pick up some deals! Haha

"12/12" just means the month and year. It may have only been traded in 9 days ago. With that store it really all depends on which manager you get. The more politely you ask, usually the result is better too.

I talked golf smith in Troy Michigan down $75.00 on my r11s driver.  They had 8 used ones in the rack at the time I went in.  I asked for the manager and told him what I was willing to pay.  He went and looked the club up and said sure lets do it.

Yeah it all depends. The wife and I just scored a sweet marble sink at lowes. It was custom ordered and then returned. It was like $1100 new for this double bowl bathroom sink. Whoever bought it, returned it. They had it for like$900, $800, then $700. Been there about a month or so. We kept an eye on it. My wife was in last week and they said $450 and she could have it. BUt she waited. I went in on Sat and asked again. Different guy then we had before said his manager would do $600. I told him I would do $350 on the spot. HE said SOLD.....now get it out of here. Get home and my wife was like you should have said $300......you can never win.

I am actually on my way to SPorts Authority here at lunch. Forever they have had a left handed Diablo Edge Tour stiff flex 3 wood for $69.99 brand new. No one has bought it because honestly how many people want a 2+yr old lefty tour 3 wood in stiff flex. I'm going to see what they can do on the price. Have no use for it, other than I am hoping to get it cheap. If not, oh well. I have 4 other 3woods at home.

My golfsmith is mainly younger guys and college kids....they are more than willing to listen to anything.

I went and got a FTIZ driver that was marked 85....they had about 3 of them that had sat for a bit and I took it to the guy and aske dif hed take 40...Looked at it and said "Sure thing, tell them at the counter"....guy at the counter called him weak and laughed when I said he agreed on 40.  GG doesnt talk at all it seems, but golfsmith is open to it.
