I looked at a set of rocketbladz yesterday at a Dick's Sporting Goods.  The 4 iron appeared to have very minute flaws in the chrome along the edge of the slot. I could feel these by running my fingernail along the edge of the slot. This may or may not be a problem, but it just looked like the chrome could chip over time.

So, Taylormade did send me a new 6 iron. However, now the 4 and 5 iron are starting to show the chrome coming off!

Here's a pic of the 5 iron where you can see the chrome starting to peel off. The 4 iron is not as bad, but you can feel the ridge.

I really like the irons, but it's a bit disappointing.

Ok that's excessive since it's appearing on other irons.

I think by now your local retailer where you purchased them should step up and get you into some JPX-825 irons or similar.  Looks like you are have a chronic issue.

Do you guys think that this is a widespread problem? I guess I can't believe that a company like Taylormade would not have foreseen that this was going to be a problem. I would think the prototype was hit thousands of times, while my clubs haven't been played that much.

I was thinking that maybe it's because I'm in the Northwest where the temps are cool and the ground is soft.

it's possible that this set of irons was part of a small bad batch of chrome plating that made it through quality control. or it could be a design defect, but that is more unlikely.

If they don't send you an entire set, I'd sell and never touch another TMAG product, that's just unacceptable.  I had a set of Hogan Edge GS years ago, that rusted like a 72 Datsun, called Hogan and they were pissed...they sent me entire set, said sometimes chroming process goes bad...which in your case is obvious.

Good luck with TM customer service, they should really take care of you.

I really believe TM has a serious problem with these irons.  When you can see it on new irons off the rack.  A serious design flaw.

I wouldn't blame your locale or swing, or time of year - the ground has been so frozen here that we are rolling balls up onto the green.  Because if you don't and you hit a full wedge the ball bounces off the green like it hit the garage floor.

We can't hardly peel divots because the fairways are solid until about noon.  Chrome is a VERY hard material.  Your chrome should not be peeling off  - think about how they may look in a year of playing.  I've never seen what you are experiencing BUT there've been cases of the plastic badge popping out of the cavity of rocketbladez - Ive seen that at the retailer I frequent.  It's held in with black double sided foam tape.

(it's my opinion that irons should not have doodads held in place with foam tape and adhesive - this goes for every mfg, but whatever)

This could be both a QC and design issue, although there does appear to be a slight radius to the edge of the slot. Chrome does not do well around a sharp corner.

But from the pics, I'd say the chrome is de-bonding from the underlying nickel. This would be a QC issue.

It's definitely time for you to return the entire set and ask for a replacement. If it happens again exchange for another model and move on, this could be isolated or part of a larger concern, either way it's not good...BB

Just as an update, Taylormade replaced the whole set.

I took off the stickers advertising the "Rocketfuel" as I did in the previous set. The stickers last time came off by just grabbing and pulling and left very little glue residue. The new set stickers were a bear to take off and left lots of glue residue. Don't know what that means, but hopefully it's a good sign lol

Good, I hopefully it was an isolated occurrence and the new set stays true, keep us posted! BB
