These are my 3 week old taylormade rocketbladez. Maybe 6 rounds.

Anyone else ever seen the chrome come off like this?

Guessing you made the right decision in buying from an authorized dealer, if so, they should be able to get that replaced from TaylorMade with one phone call.

Looks like that trailing edge of the slot might be a weak point when it contacts the turf.

TM ought to be able to take care of that pretty easily, assuming you bought from a dealer.

Yeah, not too worried about TM replacing the club, but I was kind of shocked to see it.

Hopefully, it's just an one time thing!

I've seen the insert placard pop out of the back of an RBz iron but not this.

To TMAG's credit they will be all over getting you a new set.  That's how they roll.

As other said, I am sure that TM will make it right for you.

Will be interesting to see if the slot is the weak point in the chroming process.  I could see how that area would potentially take a beating from turf interaction.

Uh oh. That's too bad, I really hate to see how cheap a company is with a product that carries a fairly lofty price tag. Shouldn't have happened obviously. Hope they take care of you but I hope even more that this doesn't come up as a common issue for a entire batch from the manufacturing plant.

Thanks for posting.

Leading edge right after the slot.  Never really thought about that till now.  That would have been a good area to make a little relief in there.

Hopefully it was just a defective chrome job that didn't round over the edge and left an area exposed for it to catch and peel back from.  And it doesn't become an epidemic across the entire set.  If so, that would be huge for TM to correct.

Do you use range mats at all by chance???

No range mats at all, but there have been a couple of days in Seattle where it was cold and the ground was hard.

You guys think that a single club replacement is good enough or should the set be replaced? None of the other clubs show this, but I'm a little worried.

On the plus side, I really like the irons. They are long! I'm not hitting my 6 iron 240 yds like one poster, but it's definitely a club longer- prob more when it heats up here in July ;) I understand that they are stronger lofted with increased shaft length, but they are so easy to hit. The only downside is that they go HIGH, so I'm not sure how they'll play in the wind. I guess I'll find out in three weeks when I play Kapalua.

I've never really had issues where I have had to use TM's warrenty on anything but I don't think they would replace all of them unless they were admittant that they had a huge issue with a large batch of them.  If your case is rare, I can only imagine them looking at replacing the 6 iron.  Now if you had 2 or 3 that were already doing it, then I could see them replacing them all and having a look at whether they have a huge issue on their hands.

No offense to the OP. We all have some clubs in our bag that were made in China.  Too bad because handcrafting stuff is the American way.

The only major retail market clubs I can think of that are not made in China would be Mizuno (Japan).

Nike's & Callaway's higher end Endo forgings (which might be outsourced to a Chinese partner foundry - unsure).  Even PING now get's their production done cheaply in China.

...to that point all i20 irons are held up right now due to a QC issue on PW heads.  They may have released them by now but before Christmas they had an issue.

And what would you like me to chime in about? Now I don't have the standards so I am speaking on behalf of the Tours...mine are just fine no issues, no pealing, they look like the day Dave gave them to us. Not sure what you were expecting from testers or guys chosen for the Tmag trip.  But my guess is if a tester of the non tours had chrome coming off they would have posted that.

Now maybe this is lost in translation but your post looks like your calling out the guys who said they liked the irons as in "ha see they are not that great". I am sure that's not your intent and your just looking to see if anyone else has had an issue maybe? But like I said I am sure if there were more issues with the irons like this 6 iron there would have been plenty of posts showing that. :dntknw:

I haven't seen it on irons but have seen it happen to industrial machinery parts we make. Plating does not like sharp edges and tends to chip or pop off. Looks like the edge of the slot , where it meets the sole, is sharp. Nickel plating will do it as well, so it may be the nickel under the chrome.

I haven't seen it yet on the clubs I have been testing. I was able to play about five or six rounds before the snow came (it's starting to melt and hopefully I'll be able to get out again soon), and since then I've been hitting off mats almost every day...but that's not the same since there is no digging in dirt/grass, etc.

This has me quite concerned though.
Hey...be nice.
