I currently play one extra wrap under a standard grip and may up that with my next grips. Is there a number of wraps that would equal a mid size?

Mid size is generally considered +1/32 and would equate to 3 extra layers on the same size grip to shaft diameter.

Who told you that ?

Build up tape for Golf use is 0.015
Grip tape for Golf use is 0.010 - 1 layer is always included

Same core/ butt size - diameter 2 inch down
- Only grip tape is STD - 0.900
- 4 layers of Build up is MID - 0.960
- 8 Layers of Build up is JUMBO - 1.020

You can talk to a fade, but a hook won't listen

Sorry Howard.

One thing to consider-
From my experience, building up a grip may reduce its feel and 'cush'.

The experts have already answered the question, so I'll just second what they said. + 4 wraps typically, but it will change the feel/softness of the grip, as is, the grip will be firmer vs a straight midsize grip. The nice thing is that you can adjust the degree to which the grip tapers, since midsize grips all taper slightly differently.

I tried 4 wraps of standard grip tape under my VDR and it feels like what I am looking for until the summer.

I have some X grips that will go on the full set asap.
