as a previous small business owner here I understand why they're doing it.

You raise your prices until enough people start to complain, THEN you lower it a little and they feel ok about buying it again

Apple famously did this with the Iphone. Starting it at 599, then reducing it to 299 makes it look like a steal. It's called "anchoring" in the technical sense

i thought anchoring was being banned by the USGA?

It gets you divorced if your wife finds the receipt.

That was my thought exactly...Think ill just keep my extra $400 and spend it on her, which makes spending the original $500 less outrageous to her. Still a WIN WIN for me! happy wife happy life

Where are you finding an iPhone 5 off of contract for $299?

LOL, nice one!

I actually don't think that is what TM is doing here though. I just think the price is set high so it's a premium, status type club. Much in the same way Scotty Cameron does it.

I would only expect the prices to come down if retailers stock them and can't sell them after a while. We saw that with the R9 superdeep tour preferred TP tour edition tour only tourspec TP Model, or whatever it was called on the R9 release. It started at 699 or 799 i think and after a year was down to 399 from what i remember. But i don't think it was intentional only that they weren't selling

If TM clubs didn't hold their value so well, it might seem expensive. :to_become_senile:

I got into an argument with a 14 year old at the range today about this club. He was telling his friends that it had the loft set at a 9 standard, and had an Oban Devotion. I told him to check out this site and see that I am right. You hear me you little punk?

OK, correct me if I'm wrong here.  A shaft that RETAILS for $400, and a driver head that could be bought with an upgraded shaft (Matrix or selected other) for no upcharge at $499.  Why would someone pay the $899 from TM when they could get the shaft separately and the R1TP and then sell the Matrix or other upgraded stock shaft and make some money back?  What a joke...I hate TM.  I'm sure the Oban white will be able to be had for less than $400 as well...

Not to mention that there's NO WAY Taylormade is getting the Oban Whites for  $400 a piece.  So how much are they making on this driver?  Way too much, that's for sure

The last time TM sold a $1000 driver it at least came with three different shafts in one box.  But $900  with one shaft just seems absurd.

But as another old adage goes...

Some people just have more money than sense...

This driver can be had for several hundred dollars cheaper if you buy from the right source.  Anyone who goes into a GG and pays full retail price is getting hosed big time!

I think most on WRX are seasoned enough to know that we don't have to pay retail. But the fact that TMAG is attempting to sell a setup that MSRP's well below their asking cost is a tad appalling.

I have been asking this question for a few weeks now and I don't think anyone has answered it. What is different between this Oban white and the OEM Oban white? Paint?

Does it feel better or worse to hook a $900 driver 40 yards OB?  :taunt:

Most likely just the R1 graphics, whoopty do, the Oban White isn't all that special and the R1 head doesn't give as good of #'s as the Stage 2 Rbz from the fittings I have seen ......

Come on.  This is GolfWRX.  Someone here will get one of the Super TP drivers.

I ordered mine on Friday, but didnt have to pay for it....
Usually am not a fan of getting a shaft that I have never hit, but one of my buddies who is a demo tech rep, said it was unbelievable and made for my game.
Should have it in the next 10 days or so....Unfortunately with all of the snow, it will be reserved to indoor trackman for a little bit

I would not look to deep into the TM web site, as mentioned before TM's web site has been so far behind and uninformed in the past and it still is to date.

Al the shafts mentioned as Custom are not listed, the spec for the R1 will not come up, I cannot find any info on the specs and ball flight for the R1 settings.

Is there a R1 Super....sure there is. I want to hear from Reps the true story behind it and it's pricing since they have to attempt to sell it.

So did you actually place the order?

Sadly, this price isn't that far off. I spent $850 today on a Titleist D3 with the Black Kiyoshi. I still can't believe I dropped that much on a single club but it just worked too well. I figure if I use it for 4 years thats only a bit over $200 a year. Still, crazy prices on these shafts.
