I have not done it personally, but I recall hearing others who have. It's definitely a good idea if its possible.

All my woods are short as well compared to today's standards. I play my driver at 44" & 3wood at 42.25", no distance loss & a lot more control with a much solider feel. Don't know why more guys don't go shorter, it would really help them find the center of the club face more often.

I contacted Ping and asked them if my PGA pro could shorten my woods without a problem. They told me Ping would be able to adjust the Swing Weight etc that shortening the length would impact and my PGA pro could not do that. They suggested I send my clubs to Ping to shorten. What would Ping do besides shortening the shaft
I am curious as well because I have heard that ping shafts are counter balanced and that shortening the shaft actually increases swing weight instead of lowering it. Can anyone confirm? I've also heard varying stories that ping will not hotmelt to add swingweight, others say they do.
It does seem at least with ping's drivers that they are a bit heavier than most oem's which is always good for shortening. Not sure about their fairway woods

I did this trick via a different method. I purchased a R11s 4 wood ( 17* ). Adjusted loft to 15.5*, almost 3 wood loft, but with shorter 4 wood shaft, and smaller profile head than 3 wood ( I prefer smaller profile ). Shaft is the Phenom, ball launches and just goes and goes. As long, high, and accurate as any 3 wood I've ever owned.
