Just wanted to say I'm very disappointed in Golf Digest. I'm sure if I did more research I would have found out why. But as is customary, every February issue of Golf Digest is their "Equipment" issue. I was excited to see it on my corner store's news stand only to find out that Feb. 2013 is not their equipment issue. Yes, there is a page or 2 on the new drivers (Nike Covert, Taylormade R1, Callaway X-Hot) But it's clearly not the Hot List I was searching for. Whether it's delayed a month for some unknown reason, I don't really care. I'm glad I didn't renew my subscription and Golf Digest can kiss my you know what...

i think the hot list is going to be the March issue this year. I mean they are still doing it. So you have to wait, is it that big a deal?

While I'm sure its not as big of a deal as I'm making it out to be... for 5 years (that I can remember) it has been their February Issue, now this year with probably more new equipment coming out than any other year, this one gets delayed? I just assumed it was going to be the February issue and even now as I'm looking around the internet, there's nothing, no communication that's it's delayed by a month or so. I was just really looking forward to reading it and now... I have to wait yet another month if not more to get it. By principal, I probably won't even buy it now. I'll go sit in Barnes and Noble's, get a coffee go grab it off the shelf, read it then put it back. Thanks Golf Digest...

I agree with Jeff above....let them get all the information and testing done and printed on all the new equipment and what is a month really to wait to find out their reviews on everything tested?? I can wait I know that much and would rather the time be taken vs the issue being rushed out with not everything having reviews I was wanting to read up on! Besides just because something was tested great for them, does not mean it will work for you!

I would understand being upset if they nixed the whole hot list issue, but waiting one month isn't a big deal to me.  I am looking forward to it as usual.

you know what happens when you assume... is it really that big of a deal? Besides, it should be taken with a grain of salt as I've heard they are more likely to promote the mfgs that throw the most money around...

Don't worry...wait an extra month and this thread will be lost in the flood of threads/posts of people disappointed with Golf Digest FOR even publishing the Hot List.

Whether it be the lack of data, the suspicion of advertising dollars affecting the ratings or the exclusion of smaller boutique manufacturers...everyone seems to have a beef with that issue.

Love the "irrational anger/meltdown threads". I understand the disappointment but come on! This can't possibly be worthy of this kind of anger. "they can kiss your...."? Why is this so personal? They didn't harm you. lol

I know last year it was in the February issue but if remember correctly, prior to that is was in the March issue. I was surprised last year on how early it was. Last year it was talking about product that normally would be announced first at the PGA Merchandise Show at the end of January.

you do realize most manufacturers have delayed their release dates on clubs this year compared to the previous couple, probably had something to do with it

I checked... it's been February issue at least back to 2009.

You're probably right on that. But I thought, specifically Taylormade, that the reason Taylormade was waiting until "tomorrow" was because that's when the February issue would be on stands

Maybe they are timing the release for closer to Spring, when many golfers will get out again for the new season.

I like reading the Hot List even though I don't agree with its 'system'.  But other than that issue, I am preferring Golf Magazine more nowadays.  The ebb and flow of magazine subscriptions, lol.

That just shows your character. The combination of the internet and consumers like yourself are why print media is dying. You should feel fortunate that they are still able to make payroll and keep the offices open. They owe you nothing.

Good idea.  I'll get a small coffee also for a buck 50.  After I'm done I'll go to my local golf store and try the equipment. Then order it from ebay.  Who said I was not smart?

You sound like the kind of guy that would never fly with Southwest Airlines again because they didn't have a pack of peanuts on your seat for you.  Or will never go to Burger King again because they forgot to put a straw in your drive-thru bag.  Or will never fill-up at Chevron because you went and all the pumps were being used.  Or won't tip the pizza guy because it took him 17 minutes to get to your house when they clearly said it would take 15.

Grow up, is basically what I'm saying.  What is it $12 a year for Golf Digest?

"It's about the principle of the thing"...blah I've heard it before

OHHHHHH MYYYYY GOOOOOODNESS.

This thread is hysterically funny. Grown men declaring their non-conformance to purchase a magazine issue because they have to wait a reasonable time for said magazine to be able to accommodate all of the Manufacturers new product.

Did anyone from GD actually SAY that the Hot List was going to be out in February?

So you're mad that the hot list issue is going to be late.  But as you said, if you did more research/thinking you might understand why.

Some of the manufacturers 2013 announcements have come later in the year than usual (Callaway, Ping, etc).  I'm guessing that if you'd gotten your Hot List issue now and it didn't have any of the new Cally, Ping, or TM stuff covered due to time constraints, you'd have started a thread "Very Disappointed with Golf Digest" taking them to task for not having tested all of the new stuff.

This IS a strange thread, particularly considering that the "February" issue comes out in early January.  Some manufacturers DO wait until the PGA Show to unveil new products, and that's still 2 weeks away.

But while I'm here, how many here would miss the ranking of the "100 Best Courses" - overwhelming private - that IS in the February issue if it were "only" done once a decade instead of every other year?  I have no idea why they insist on "ranking" courses 99% of the readership will never even play, much less consider joining, so often.  I'd miss the "Best You Can Play", but to me, this is a pointless waste of space.

I'll take a stab at answering that question.  Most of the readership may not play there, but I bet a huge chunk of the advertisers do.  Magazines like GD make the vast majority of their money from ads, subscription fees are pretty much negligible.  GD is just ~$12/year.  It's so cheap so they can get a high number of subscribers which in turn means they can charge more for ads.

Golf Digest indicated in their February issue that by signing up for the on line newsletter (no charge) Golf Digest Stix published every Wednesday starting January 23rd we could get the 2013 Hot List two weeks in advance of the March issue. I signed up and have yet to receive the January 23rd newsletter/on line magazine which contained the advanced 2013 Hot List. Anyone get the January 23rd Golf Digest Stix?
