This may or may not be the place for this but Im curious about transactions., After agreeing to pay the listed price and a deal being reached, I asked for his paypal info. A few minutes later he asks for 20 bucks more because someone else had offered more. The original post didnt state obo... I feel as though people should stick to their word.. This isnt ebay. Honesty and accountability is a big thing with me and I feel as though I was wronged... I have private messages to prove my stance... Help? or someone just tell me tuff crap...

If a deal was already reached and you were waiting for the seller to send his/her paypal, then that seller should honor the deal they made with you regardless of getting an offer for more with another person.  It sounds like sellers remorse and felt that they should have gotten more money for the item.

Unfortunately, not much else can be done other than possibly stating who that member is so other members can be cautious to buy from that seller.

Good luck.

I would say it's not cool on the sellers part for sure.

Selling your BST soul for $20 should be threadline news.

Out him.  That's a bunch of BS right there.  Every seller who's on here long enough has underpriced an item and gotten a lot of PMs.  This isn't a real estate foreclosure deal....

We need to know who it is. That is not what this site is about. If he wants a bidding war, he can play on ebay.

I'd walk away from the deal if someone did that to me.  Not sure about outting the guy though.  He/she deserves it, but that sort of thing causes an uproar around here sometimes.

Yeah, sounds like he was trying to start a bidding war between the two of you.  The BST isn't an auction site.  Seems really lame on the sellers part to do so.  Mixed feelings on whether he should be outted or not, but the move was pretty douchbaggish.

+1.

Handle it via pm, if he does not own up to what he agreed to, then discuss options w/ the mods and go from there, but do it privately.

sometimes the deals would too good to pass up even after paying the extra $20 or whatever.
however, i would still walk away from it due to the seller not being honorable.

Definitely not cool by the seller. I would walk away unless you are desparate for the item and it's still a good deal even +$20. Out him/her if you feel it is a necessary step, but that's your call.

Who's to say the seller is not lying about the other offer and is just trying to scam an extra $20 from you?

Definitely bad form on the part of the seller. This is the risk you take when you accept a potential buyer's offer... The next offer might be what you're asking (or even higher).

However, I won't say it's immediately worth outing the seller over. Some people here are just too "Out-happy"... Try to handle the matter privately with the seller and if required, the Mods. If it ends amicably, move on and chalk it up as an experience. If not, then use your best judgment as to whether the transaction is worth revealing the seller's identity.

Personally, I would let him know that I'm not gonna pay more than what was agreed.  If he cancels the deal, then I would let everyone know who it was (just so they know the type of person they're dealing with).

Thats just me though...

First, I'd out the seller.

Second, the seller doesn't have to sell to you.  But if you did a handshake deal (offer/acceptance) then the seller should be man enough to honor it.  If not, tell him to suck it, Trebek.

Just to be clear, this was all over a couple minute span, right?

If that's the case he should have honored the price you two agreed upon, provided that you send paypal before the other person.  There are a lot of people who will say they will buy an item on here that just disappear once a deal is reached, hence why I like stipulating that the first person to Paypal gets the item when I sell [I am in no way saying you are one of them btw].

But for $20 and a reputation, he should have still given you the chance to complete the deal.

Bad form on the sellers part, really bad. I would hope that someone's character would be worth more than $20.

As far as outting the guy, I wouldn't do that. For me, it would have to be an EXTREME case for me to ever do that.

Yes I totally agree do not out him but you may want to nudge him towards this chat so he can see public opinion, let him know you would like the $20 back based on principle. He should honor his asking price, this is not an auction site and we need to police our BST to maintain the highest level of integrity so everyone can feel safe and enjoy a nice buy/sell/trade on WRX...BB

Exactly what I was thinking too. If you arranged a deal for the listed price (even if it was marked down from the original) then that's solid as far as I'm concerned. I'm guessing the seller had a price drop and is just trying to get more out of the OP. Pretty shady IMO.

Even if there is another potential buyer, like stated, this isn't an auction site. As soon as a deal is reached, follow through.

We don't know if the OP paid the extra loot or if the seller reneged on the original deal and sold it to the highest bidder. Either way , attempting to hold a buyer hostage is pretty low brow and outing him would not be out of line.

Out the seller.

Seller listed an item for set price, OP agreed to pay set price, seller attempted to swindle $20 extra, seller is 100% wrong.

haha...some of you guys crack me up! No trial or jury, straight to the electric chair.  I'm not at all suggesting the OP is "adding a little pepper to the gumbo" but typically every story has two sides. Be nice to hear the other side before we burn anyone at the stake. :)

If this is the case, the seller should be prepared to find a new site to frequent.  On several occasions I've accepted an offer from a buyer that was below my list price and minutes after I send them my paypal info, someone else comes in asking for my paypal to pay list price.  Sucks, but it is what it is.  Your integrity is one of the things that defines you, especially here.  If you don't have integrity, you do not deserve the privilege of using the BST forum.

So, did the item actually sell?

Very poor form.  If he wants a bidding war, he needs to go to ebay.
