Hello Junior WRX'ers I was just curious if any of you high school students were looking at going into PGM.

Do you know what schools you are looking at?

Mostly the schools in my state. NC State, Campbell, maybe coastal carolina if I go out of state. But I don't have any serious information that would make me choose one over the other.

I visited the 3 NC and both schools in SC. NC State would be the school I would recommend for anyone in NC. I chose EKU for different reasons but NC State is the best in the Carolina's

NC state is the school I want to go to more either way.

But can you be more specific as to why Nc State is better ? Like, what puts them over the top ?

NC State's school in general. They are a big University compared to Campbell and Methodist. Methodist grads are every where but it is a gated university that is basically all PGM with about 100 girls. Campbell is a very strict private school. All 3 have great programs and are equal in the sense of PGM but you have to have a get away from golf PGM will drain you of golf and NC State is a big school where you will be able to be as involved as you want to be in the program and be able to have the college experience.

My son just finished high school early and just got accepted to Coastal Carolina. We are going to The golf performance center in Ridgefield,Ct in January until he goes to school in the fall. I don't know if he's going there yet but got accepted anyway. Good luck to you all where ever you go.

I am already in the program. And Santiago Golf I love when every school throws out "best one in the program" until you get into the business you will realize there are so many schools it doesn't matter what school you go to. Its all who you know, whats on your resume, and where you have interned. Hate to break it to everyone looking to going into PGM I have a 3.4 GPA and I will tell you that doesn't mean a darn thing. I haven't got a single internship due to my GPA or the fact that I go to Eastern Kentucky University. You have to have good people skills if you can not hold a conversation with an employer it doesn't matter if you went to Ferris, Methodist, Mississippi State, or Penn State they won't hire you. You have to go to these programs and get involved in the Student Associations and Tournament Committees. If you don't have one start one. That's the problem with these PGM students going to schools like PSU, Ferris, Methodist, Coastal, Campbell, and so on they feel like "we're the best" and don't work hard and expect everything handed to them when employers really don't give a dam what school you go to. They care about their bottom line and if you don't work hard for them they will fail you on your internship and will not hire back from your University. Trust me it happened to a kid I interned with my freshman year who went to Methodist. Who used the line "Our pro is a Methodist grad," and "We're the best PGM school" .... Ya don't be that guy

3 letters to help sway opinions S.E.C. There is no greater school to attend for PGM than an SEC school at Mississippi State. Also if you live in the southern 12 or 13 states you can qualify for academic common market and get in-state tuition. I was a former PGM student at Mississippi State and enjoyed my time in the program. It is in the business school so you will graduate with a marketing degree. There is even a simulator in the Business school building (a great spot for in between classes) and the PGM office is a great spot to hang out in also. I left for different reasons, but the Director and Co-Director are great guys, always willing to help in anyway they can. #HailState

As a Methodist grad I would tell you it was the best four years of my life. But I totally agree with one of the previous posts, the golf business and your education are what you make of it. I chose Methodist because it was the best fit for me, I liked the small class sizes and the location was awesome.

I have been accepted into the Ferris State PGM program. I'm not sure if that's what I'm going to go into or not.

I kind of was but I don't think there's enough of a money incentive.  I was looking into Methodist and Campbell, which I've heard have the top 2 programs.  My friend is going to Campbell and another is strongly considering Methodist.

There is money to be made in the business it's how bad do you want it. It's like every other business if your willing to work hard and catch a lucky break hear or there you can make 6 figures my boss from this last summer is now the Head Pro at age 26 graduated Methodist in 2009 and is making over 120k!

I go to school with daniel at EKU. I met his old boss, and played the course dan interned at and it was incredible.

Anyway, I'm not going to drop his name just for fact that I'm not sure he'd be ok with it, even though he probably doesn't care. He is the head pro at Hidden Creek Golf Club in New Jersey, so that should help you figure it out.

If you don't want to have to move around every summer and take four inturnships each summer, I suggest going the old fashioned way and do it yourself through the PGA! I could not afford to quit my job each summer and go work somewhere for peanuts and be the bottom of the pole each season! Plus if you get at a good course they will pay for it!
