Let's hear the side bets and games you play with your group on a fun afternoon. I've already heard all the popular games, I want to hear the ones that you guys made up while drunk one day, or one you just came up with during a round. I'm always looking for ways to spice up the game.

Here's mine:
Worst score on a hole has to walk to the next hole (assuming we are riding carts that day). If there is a tie for the worst score, it carries over, whoever loses the next one has to walk the entire next hole. Needless to say the worst golfer in our group is in the greatest shape of his life. The funniest part is just watching two carts take off from a hole, leaving one guy to walk after them, it makes for good laughs for the group behind us.

We play a game we like to call "on the spot". Easy. Everyone starts with $20 1 dollar bills in a beer cup in the cart. Bets can be made at anytime for any amount. ie. I bet you 5 bucks that I beat you on this hole. i bet $2 bucks that you dont sink this putt, I bet you $10 that you dont hit the green (par 3) etc. Player has option to accept or decline bet. Bet must be paid after result. Once your $20 is gone you cannot replenish until next round. Players must bet at least $10 throughout the round. Great fun, adds a little pressure to certain situations but can be rewarding.

My brother-in-laws and I play for a trophy called "the monkey" It's this hideous looking thing they found at some antique shop that we drilled a hole into and placed a golf ball in it's lap. It basically looks like a Buddha monkey with a ball in it's lap. The winner has to take it home and display it prominently in their living room...needless to say our wives hate it.

We are going to be adding that the person with the worst score has to wear a pink cap the next time we play. The cap will state something like "I lost the monkey"...they are going to have to wear it the whole round also.

Also similar to leetch, when my brother in law and I play, loser has to hang this hideous pink purse off their bag for the entire round. Also, no matter who is playing the guy who has the pink purse must put it on his shoulder before tee off on 1st hole and announce to the foursome that he lost last time..hence the pink purse. always hilarious when we get teamed up with 2 people we don't know...

Not sure if this belongs here but I have been dieing to post this here for awhile so here goes:

I live in a rural area so most us folks have large yards (3-5 acres) and a buddy of mine came up with the idea he was going to make a par 3 course one day. It is a 9 hole course with 8 par 3's and 1 par 4. The par 3's range from 50-90 yards and the par 4 I think is about 130. He has fairways and ruff cut along with a couple of home made bunkers here and there and of course flags and he makes a circle in chalk about gimme range around each flag for the hole. Here is where it gets interesting, you get 2 balls in the once a year "Masters" we play and before the round you get to choose 1 club. You must use this club on every shot and if you loose your balls you are out. Seeing that we have no "holes" just a circle to get in we have interesting club choices. I usually take the SW but some go for a 7 iron but none the less if is almost more fun than a real round. We also have a hideous green jacket the we got at a yard sale for like $4 that is awarded to the winner and we all chip in to buy an add in the local paper to put the winners picture in the jacket!

Edit: forgot to mention that this is near a farm so we have a good bit of trees to contend with not to mention building hazards and such.

We play alot of wolf, 5's, team bets, net games, gross games, 9's, and others.

One group plays a goofy game where anyone who has a three putt has to carry a big stick until someone else has a three putt. Person who ends the day with the shaft owes everyone else 5 dollars.

We play a game here called captains, is basically a variation of Wolf, but somewhat different. It works best with 5 players, we play with up to 7 or 8 (I realize this isn't possible at most places, we are lucky)

It works like this: The first batter is the captain, he has to pick or pass each player as they tee off. Once he's passed you can't go back for him. Once the team's are set, it's straight better ball. The kicker is, the teams are un-even. Example, if you're playing with 5, the captain picks one player, and they play against the other 3. With 6 it's 4 on 2, seven is 4 on 3, and so on. So if you're on the small team, you're really gambling. Not only are you short a man, but you have to pay more if you lose, but you make more if you win. The stakes just have to add up to be even. So if you start at $3/hole, the small team wins or loses $4.50 a piece. Once the first blood is drawn, there's a press, and after that it's press when you're pissed. All presses stay on for the rest of the match. We get pretty high by the end of the day, someone's feelings are always hurt. There is strategy involved, sometimes you gotta swallow you're pride and hit a shot just good enough to be in play, but bad enough that you won't get picked, if the first batter sucks or drove it in the weeds. Very brutal game
