Hey golf world!

I recently was fitted via trackman data and other metrics to buy a set of ping i20 irons standard length and lie with x100's. That being said, I loved the clubs as they were substantially longer and straighter than my tour preferred 2009's.

My worry is that if I buy them Ping will come out with something new i.e. the i25 irons in the near future. I never buy things new that have been out as long as the i20's and was wondering if anyone had insight as to when the new i25's would be out or if the i20's would hold their value for a while.

Just a  college kid trying to make a good investment.

Pat

seeing as I have the ping i20 irons, I will not get another set for many years to come.  I started out with  my first set of irons as ping i3 O size then went to s59 then to s56 and then finally moved back to the i20.  the perfect blend of forgiveness, accuracy, and total confidence that the i20 gave me is worth not worrying about the latest and greatest coming out.  if they come out with the i25, be pleasantly surprised to be let down.  the i20 iron was one of those revolutionary irons that helped a lot of golfers out.  If i were you, I would just get the i20 and be happy with what you got, waiting at least another 8 months to look at a new decal on the back is not worth the extra 100-200 dollars in my opinion.  I cant say enough how amazing the i20 irons are.

Ping stuff runs in 2 year cycles.  You'll see pics of the G25's before long (irons), the i20's have been out for about a year so they'll get replaced probably in 2014 if everything remains the same.

if things go according to that pattern, when would you expect the i25's to hit stores?

i have the i20s, siiiiiiick irons. it would have to take a super special iron for me to drop these for something else. feel, forgiveness, playbility , sound and look all perfect to me. ping hit the mark with these imo.

Look to see when they start running sales on i20 stuff and that is when its close to being replace. Iron technology is not changing enough to worry about losing anything is one generation of evolution. Especially for a iron the type i20's are. The only reason to wait is for the vanity and status of having the newest thing out, or saving money on the recently replaced.

I'd wait and see what you can find over the winter on eBay....ESPECIALLY since you are a standard L/L.  Just search for xstiff irons.  You'll say a ton of dough...and you don't have to worry about buying used because the i20s are pretty much indestructible.  I had to buy new because of my specs, but if you're standard buy used.

I think there are a few sets of i20 on our BST here right now.  Just set your sights on i20's and keep checking. They will turn up, for sure.

Also, you need to keep in mind that Ping usually tweaks the specs when they refresh the I-series, especially as regards to offset and bounce.
There is no guarantee that the i25 will be better suited to your individual game.
Every time Ping releases a new version, they are at least a few people that prefer the previous one.
I've played the i20s for an entire season now, and they are an absolute marvel of engineering ...

I'm in a similar situation but like a previous post stated wait til Feb and then make a decision. There always something new coming and if you keep waiting you may not pull the trigger.  I would imagine the i20's hold there value pretty well so if you wanted to upgrade it may be done without much harm.

However all I want for Christmas is to see the G25 irons.

Played Ping irons for 25+years. Three sets- Eye2s, I5s and now I20s. ( Had I 15s but made a trade with a friend). If you play Pings long enough you find folks find one they really like and stick with it. To me it's the 'bird in the hand' sort of thing. If you like the I20s, you can play them and you're happy who cares what the I 25, 30s, 35s will be. You're playing right now. One thing for sure, if you don't like them Ping irons are very easy to sell and they hold value. Eye2s in very good condition still bring $250.00-300.00 dollars

I love my I-20's. I was at Golf Galaxy yesterday and for kicks, I hit the new Anser 7 iron. It had the Project X 6.0 shaft which I feel is too stout for me but still wanted to try it. My 7 iron averaged 175 yds. With my I-20's, I average 160 yds. It was so easy to hit. Now the golf ho is rearing it's ugly head and seriously considering the Ansers.

You have to remember that those launch monitors are juiced   Unless you were hitting your i20s at the same time, I wouldn't put any stock in those numbers.

I generally pull a 6i for ~180yd-185yd shots.  Using the Golf Galaxy video simulator I hit a 6i blade an average of 212yds.  Including a toe shot of 198yds and a near hosel rocket of 199yds.  I play AP2's, and now am trying out the i20's, and this was using a TM MB with a KBS X in them.  So I hit a blade 32yds farther?  LOL...

TL; DR version:  Don't trust the video simulator at Golf Galaxy.

Agreed. Plus if there's a 15 yard difference, someone was seriously misfit the first time.

So you guys are saying even though I hit my 7 iron around 160 yds on every course I play on and every type of conditions, the extra 15 yds i was getting at Golf Galaxy was not because i ate my Weaties for breakfast that morning? That is good to hear because I really don't like Weaties. I am bacon and egg guy..  lol

Some times, their video simulator seems to behave properly.  Then out of nowhere a 360yd drive from a 110mph swing.  No really....

Or a 6i that goes 232yds...

Or an RBZ 15* 3W that goes 347yds during their launch night...

Thanks for the input everybody, I think I am just going to pick up a set of i20's come January before I am headed South for a golf trip. I agree they are the most solid irons I have hit in a while and had the attitude that I wasn't giving up my TP's until something revolutionary happened. Something revolutionary happened when I used the i20's true temper x-stiff outside with a trackman vs. my Tour Preferred 2009 Project X 6.0. I will get at least 2 years out of them so what the hell I guess, why not.

As with the GG issue, I hit a driver with regular shaft 364 yards last week (Just screwing around with pre-owned gear) and I play an 70g x-stiff... My buddy works at GG and said not only does the machine juice your yards, it is completely skewed when reading because it calculates ball speed and where it hits on the mat for the shot. Which means that if you are hooking the hell out of the ball it could show up as a slice on moniter because it hit the right side of the screen. Trackman is the way to go!

January/February of 2014 would be the latest the i25s will come out. The Anser woods and hybrids release may have thrown a little wrench into Pings release dates. Most products are ready for pre-order by January 15 and Ping's website now has the G25 line on there. I would expect the I line to be released late this fall or early next Spring. That being said I currently play I 10s and did not see much difference between them and the I 15s. But the I20s were far greater. I waited a year to get them and am now in the same boat as you are. I am not sure if I want to wait and see what the next model brings or go with what I love. I will say the G25s have the CFS shaft in them so I would assume that won't change from the I20 to the 25s. Maybe a slight difference in design would be the only difference.

With the success of the i20 irons you might see them later rather than sooner.  S56 has had a long shelf life than normal because of this and perhaps they haven't found an iron that's an improvement.  As long as the i20 continues to sell well they will be in the line for another year IMO.  I would seriously think PING will not produce an i25 unless it has been improved for a performance stand point.

As far as the woods go, the G series has always been a staple in their line.  i20 was a huge improvement over i15 but still doesn't offer the forgiveness of the G20 line.  The main draw to i20 was LOW launch and spin.  Anser has basically given the best of both, similar forgiveness (increased over i20) while maintaining low spin (lower than i20) and an adjustable hosel.

Ok, I see that the online retailers are now discounting the I20 series clubs.  Anyone know when the new series will be rolled out?

Ordered my i20s yesterday.  Might the i25s, at whatever point they're released, be an improvement over the i20s?  Sure.

But since we don't know when that is, or what any improvement might be, I'm putting the performance and forgiveness of the i20s to work for me as soon as I can get these amazing clubs in the bag.
