My buddy just sent me a pic of his new bag.  Apparently a squirrel chewed right through the cloth to get at an energy bar.

They can be extremely aggressive. I was in NM a couple years ago and was on the 10th green at the UNM Championship Course when I see a squirrel get in our cart and open a container and proceed to eat my buddies hamburger he just got at the turn. If that wasn't funny/sad enough another squirrel got his Payday candy bar out of the cart four holes later. That situation was funny. However, I would have been livid if a squirrel would have done this to my bag!

How long was the bag sitting there for a squirrel to do that much damage. :-)

I hear ya. My little brother had a hostess donut stolen from him out of our canoe when we were fishing and pulled up on the bank. I didnt believe him until I saw the furry rascal chewing on it halfway up a tree.

Depends on where you're at.  I've got squirrels on one course that'll go up to the cart and grab food and then there's 5 other courses I play where the squirrels run away as soon as they see ya.

City muni has the toughest squirrels around. They walk up with no fear.

Sheesh, good thing the squirrels didn't know how to work the break on that clicgear or they'd have taken off with the whole bag :)

Foxes and crows we have to watch out for on some courses we play, they'll nick anything the can potentially eat or sell on craigslist, but typically the squirrels stay near the trees.

I feed them outside my office.  If you bribe them they won't bother you and neither will their buddies.

We live on a golf course and a few years ago we put icicle lights on our back deck, facing toward the golf course.   The squirrels ate the damn Christmas lights.   Stupid rats with furry tails.

You might be a "slow" player when your bag sits long enough for a squirrel to chew a hole in it. Lol ;)

We have monkeys (macacques) - evil little buggers that will rip open anyting to get at your food, and they tend to attack in packs - they might only be a couple of feet tall, but they have very sharp pointy teeth and nails...

My neighbor had bale of hay and a scarecrow and corn stalks for Halloween decorations on his porch.  I walk up to the door and there were a few squirrels duking it out over the corn - than one little b*st*ard came up to me and started growling like a pit bull or something.

Squirrels can be really aggressive in the pursuit of food in any location where they've learned not to be afraid of people...or they know people will feed them.

Also---with the drought this summer---I can imagine that their usual food supply is pretty tight.

They have owned the Seattle muni's for decades....even if there is no food in your bag you could be in trouble if there ever was any since they still smell it. They can rip into your bag in under 3 minutes and only be a few feet away from you to boot. They are so unafraid that they will be in the garbage cans and stay in there when you look in!

I had one come into my time share in Kona and run into the bedroom where my wife was packing. The funny thing is, we got everything out but never say the mongoose again. It never came out of the room and was hiding somewhere. I told the front desk when we checked out so the cleaning lady didn't get her face ripped off.

Drought = lower food now, yields a more aggressiveness squirrel. That sucks for your buddy.

This would be a problem for me since I always carry spam on the golf course.

A squirrel ran up a tree with a friend's Blackberry and put it in its little lair.  My friend had to park his electric cart next to the tree, climb on top of the roof of the cart, then climb up the tree to get his Blackberry back.  Squirrel was not far away watching the whole thing.  Probably was laughing its a** off.  :D

Yup.  Seen squirrels rip through bags before.  They have plenty of time while golfers are waiting on the tee box.  How many of us actually keep an eye on our bags when were waiting on the tee box and just hanging out with buddies?

Surely squirrels have more taste than to go for a blackberry?

This guy jumped on my bag then dove into the side pocket where I put my clif bar... he grabbed it and ran.  Jerk.

Squirrels(tree rats) and air rifles. So much fun shouldn't be allowed.

Squirrels love golfers who bring food, try our course here in TX, where we've had a Bobcat take a ball right off the fairway, families of Racoons rob the carts (little army of Momma and 4 or 5 young ones.
