A new trend? Nike's "motion-inspired" golf glove

In recent years, the golf footwear industry has been transformed by motion-inspired shoes that work with the body to boost comfort and performance. Nike Golf's latest golf glove, the Dri-Fit Tech, has the potential to do the same thing to the golf glove industry.

The Dri-Fit Tech is different from Nike golf gloves in the past because of a patent-pending silicone section that covers certain areas on the back of the hand and knuckles. That silicone is laid over Nike's Dri-Fit material in a pattern that was inspired by the way the tendons are structured in the hand, providing better support and range of motion according to Marci DuChene, product line manager for bags, gloves and women's footwear for Nike Golf.

"This is a new zone for us," DuChene said. "When you put this glove on, you look at it initially and think it looks funny. But when you swing, you don’t feel it at all."

The glove also features a low profile velcro pull tab that keeps the back of the glove slim, yet still allows for easy off and on. It's made of premium Cabretta leather and is available in stores now for a street price of $24.99.

For traditionalists, Nike is releasing its Tour Classic (pictured below), which is similar to previous Cabretta leather-constructed Nike Golf gloves. It will be available Dec. 1 and carry a street price of $18.99.

I like the initial feel of a lot of these "flexible" gloves with mesh backs, but they seem to stretch out really quickly. I have had better luck with gloves that are primarily leather holding up longer. It will be interesting to see if these solve some of the stretching out issue.

Not much attention these days is paid to the golf glove. I am interested to see if this technology actually works or is just a ploy to make $$$ and justify a higher price. I think the glove would look better and stand out less if the silicone section was white or grey. But they probably wanted it to stand out... If these sell, I could see them releasing them in different colors.

looks pretty cool but the question is whats wrong with the gloves we have now and what kind of improvements are we looking at? gloves now are comfortable and doesnt restrict hand movement... i wonder how these will feel?

This sounds a bit gimmicky to me. Any evidence these composite gloves actually work? They may feel better if the glove allows a greater range of movement but is the support really necessary/effective?

Not a new trend.  Bionic gloves have been making motion inspired gloves for years.

My fav is an all cabretta leather too.....

Tight at first, but thin and great fit after a few swings.

This will be an interesting thing to try out.  If it is as comfortable or more than a full cabretta, I will be in for one to see how durable.  I don't wear thru more than 2-3 gloves per year, sorry hands don't sweat, and I try not to strangle the club,  so it just has to wear out for me to replace it.  Have to see what it looks like...on the hand too!

I've tried this glove on already and it definitely has a great fit.  Once you have it on and grip a club you don't get that restricted feel that you usually have with an all cabretta leather glove the first time you wear it.  I haven't played any golf with one on, but I'm sure I will in the Spring.

The white and black ones remind me gloves that I wore when I had my sportbike (Yamaha R6).

Played with one Wednesday. Very compfy and snugg. It feels like a lot of other nice gloves, nothing to make me say WOW. I almost forgot, it does have the best velcro strap I've used. Rubber tip so its very easy to pull on and off, not like some that are all leather.

Unfortunately this doesn't really tell me what revolutionary thing the glove does for me.

I know that it's got some silicone on there that I won't feel when I'm swinging, and suggest that if I like the new golf shoes I'll like this.

Oh, and I should pay more for it because?

I almost got the $25 one pictured above, but my hands are in between sizes with most brands so I wanted to try it on at the store first. I have small hands but at times a cadet M is great on the hand but fingers are too short, while a regular M fits great on the fingers, but loose on the hands.

Besides I picked up 4 Dri-Fit III Tours on tgw's black friday sell for just under $10 a piece.

Not mentioned in the article, but the new Nike wet weather gloves are also fantastic. Had a chance to hit balls with them on when our rep brought out the new offerings, best feeling wet-weather gloves I've ever worn. The Dri-fit tech was a great glove as well, Nike is pulling out all the stops across the board this year. Love it.

I switch between the Hirzl and Bionic gloves, both last a long time, so the price isn't a huge concern. I'll try this one come spring.

When you put it on you think It looks funny, but then you look at the covert driver in your bag, and all the sudden the glove looks normal.

I honestly don't think I have ever put much thought into glove "tech" Protect my hand, be soft, dry fast, and stay soft after you have dried and then, don' wear out after 36 holes and I will buy 6 of you at a time on Rock bottom for 6 bucks a piece or whatever it is.

My footjoy premium tour glove is $36 a piece. I don't play them all year but when conditions are perfect, it feels great to be wearing leather intended for a Ferrari!

Same here. Initially Pumas and Nike Tech Xtreme were my favs but I'd stretch them and have to buy new soon.

Even Nike tour classic.

Lately the Hirzl gloves have been skin tight and snug.  With a bit of hand sweat they seem to get better oddly.

These look great! I'm liking where Nike is heading in 2013. I used to wear the older style Nike gloves. I may have to give these a shot.
