Is free speech not allowed on WRX? You guys ever read the 1st Amendment to the Constitution?

I'll probably be banned from the website for my "radical" views.

Free speech doesn't apply to internet forums.....

Usually when there's a huge decision or issue they lock it down to one relevant thread.  That way it doesn't dominate all the new posts and it's easier to manage

What Higherground said.  Within an hour of the news there was something like 5 or 6 different threads started.  It clogs up the new posts listings.

But just as important I'm don't want to have to sift through 5 or 6 threads to get some good insight and thoughts, if they are all contained to one area, the risk of missing a really good post is lessened.

It has nothing to do with free speech, just common sense and good site management.

From the thread:

Quote

Zak is just doing his job, guys.

We've had a general policy here to lock or merge threads on the same topic, resulting in one group "conversation" on significant subjects. This is something that had been suggested/requested by many members in the past -- members who don't want to "miss anything" but don't have the time to jump around 3 or 4 different threads to keep up with the discussion.

Thanks. :)

Treating others the way you want to be treated is the key component to preservation of our goals.

I got an email warning (spanking) regarding recent posts about free speech. I was reminded that free speech does not exist on forums like this, even if there was no violation of forum rules. Guess I have to accept that.

No, you got a warning for calling another member a d-bag in this thread.

Here's a copy of the PM/email that was sent to you,

Quote

Hello,

This message is being sent because you have violated one or more of GolfWRX's rules: personal attack, language in PGA... thread. Please take the time to read the rules which are located on the top of every forum.

http://www.golfwrx.c...tion=boardrules

This is a warning, and while we do not want this message to make you fear the site or it's Marshals / Admins, we are however, trying to keep the peace. This is not a perfect science, and while the rules are subjective we would appreciate your efforts to stay on the safe side when posting. When in doubt... DON'T!... We are very busy, and hope you can sort through your posts to determine the problem area, and make corrective actions to prevent future problems.

We pride ourselves here at Golfwrx to be an online Country Club, and to have that feeling we must act appropriately and avoid confrontations.

Thanks for your understanding.

I guess we need to start locking up "which club is best for me" posts. I see an awful lot of them...

The Constitution gives freedoms from the government.  Freedom of speech from the government means you can speak against the government without fear of arrest.  WRX is not a government entity.

Supreme Court has made it abundantly clear that there is no expectation of 'free speech' in a private setting. Private meaning controlled. Not being an a**, just check the cases on this.

Thanks for the one main thread, makes it a LOT easier to follow.

Any chance of doing the same to BLADES vs. GI threads? :nyam:

I think Jim Clark should file a federal lawsuit over this speech issue.  Maybe apply for a writ of habeas corpus while he's at it.
