If he is a 6 handicap he has a long way to go unless he wants to be a club pro.

I agree.

However, you need to consider the kind of pro he is trying to become. Granted the dream of domination, or even just a fair number of wins is nice. There are also some less ambitious who are happy just to be able to wear the uniform and be a part of a very small group. Those guys are happy just to be able to squeeze a living out of the role. They take up space and are happy to be good enough to take up space. They count outscoring a name player as a win.

If the guy can afford it and thinks the teacher s worth it, then who is anyone to judge. The going rate here in Singapore is 80 Sing dollars (65US) for a local pro. The last one I had said that my swing looked fine. Yeah, of course it did, that's why I couldn't break 90...

I then found a great Aussie teacher, triple A PGA, TPI, teaches pros and the national team etc who charges 130SGD a round (about 100US) who has knocked 7 shots off my HC, and has stopped me going slowly mad with snap hooks. Bear in mind this is in Singapore which is ferociously expensive (though low tax).

For the record he wants to be a touring pro on the PGA tour.  Not a teaching pro.

Maybe he should spend the money on a sex change and play the LPGA instead? :)

I was speaking of touring pros, but the kind who are just good enough to be in the contest without a legitimate chance to win.

EVERYBODY on the tour can play.  Not a one of the tour pro's just aspired to be just a member of the tour
to just get along.

I think you really don't have an idea of what it takes to be a tour player.  Your local scratch golfer
would not have any chance of ever being a tour player.
