[Doc Mcstuffins]

I love equipment....phew, there I said it!   What I love even more than clubs, is a great deal on them. Typically you can find me checking out the used racks hoping to find a diamond in the rough. Before I even look at driver heads I'm staring at the shafts hoping to find that metallic orange (tour ad) or pearly white with red accents (Tour Spec) that some joker traded in for peanuts on the dollar.

It was a fruitless effort all summer long, but all of a sudden cold weather hits and everywhere I turn these "diamonds in the rough" are showing up. Seems to me everybody is trading in their gear and either purchasing the latest and greatest, OR getting ready for all the February releases. Either way, good timing for me since I had a ton of giftcards to burn.

This weekend alone here's what I came across. 3 Ping Tour S wedges (barely hit) $90 total. Ping Anser driver $200, Adams MB2's raw 4-PW $200. Ping Anser 3 wood w/ "real" X5ct blueboard $130, and late last night an RBZ Tour driver with "real" X5ct Ahina $135. Can't be a coincidence, so my advice to all you bargain basement club ho's out there....get out and hit those used racks!

Thanks, I was able to get the "history" on the MB's and they were actually barely played. Came from the Adams rep and owned by one of the store employees. Came with newish blue/white multicompounds which is about $70 in grips alone, and reshafted with Nippons. The blue ferrules are questionable. Still had dirt in the grooves. Gonna clean them up and try to remove a bit of the oxidation with a coke bath. These were never on my radar, but after hitting them I fell in love. Such a sweet forging and the raw finish is something unique that you'll almost never see at your local muni.

I would leave that rust on there!  Looks sick!  Maybe just go over it with a fine steel wool to even it out.  Definitely would change the ferrules though.

Thanks Tai...I don't mess with anything that has idiot marks or noticeable damage. My OCD seems to kick in with my golf equipment more than anything else.

Thanks dude.   Technically $190 w/ my $10 off coupon. You might surprise yourself with these. They are very easy to hit (for a blade). Heel to toe they are a little longer than most other blade forgings, which for me gives me a little more confidence standing over them. It's funny because these were on the used rack last week and I looked right past them. Picked em' up this time and fell in love with all that patina. They look damn zexy in the bag. Can't wait for all the  "WTF happened to your clubs" comments from my playing partners.

This epic run of ho'ing continues. Just picked up a Tour Ad Di6X from Pure for the ol' RBZ. Should have mentioned I also snagged a 913D3 and some Mizuno T11's along the way.

Here's the secret to MY success. Make friends with someone at one of the big box stores. Be friendly...chit chat...make nice. Then when you find something you like, ask them, "do you think you can do any better on the price"? 9 times out of 10 they can at Golfsmith. Golf Galaxy on the other hand usually doesn't budge, but they do offer coupons that you can used towards all used gear. The price that the clubs are marked at are usually double the trade-in amount, so they do have some room to play with so to speak.

With quick production cycles (thank you TM) and so much gear on the market, anyone can build a bag from pennies on the dollar....just be resourceful.

Aftermarket for sure. They wanted $179 for it, but I pointed out to them the marks left after the shaft was pulled from something else. Knocked another $50 off for me. The good news is it's at my preferred playing length of 42.5". D1 swingweight but a little lead tape should get it up to D4 for me. Eventually I'd like to find a deal on a Speeder 7.2vc and pop it in there.

A lot of the stores I go to wholesale most of there used trade inn's.  One sells all good used equipment on ebay.  My only close GG sends 95% of there trade inn's to 3 balls golf to sell on ebay.  Makes me sick.  You can get some great buys on the used rack.  But  a lot of the stores today want you to buy new.

Wow!  I wish I could find lefty deals like that especially the MB2's.  

I have a few stores that I frequent looking for the "diamond in the rough" but it never happens.
