No doubt. Our May to October golf season is rough. I could handle a mid november to mid march off season...but the one here in edmonton is gross.
here in windsor ont we golf from mid march to nov - the lay off is pretty short and nice to get some rest. This weekend it's going to be almost 60 or 11 for you "northern canadians"!!!!!

At the moment I'm all too excited about the next season. I'm just wondering how I'll survive until then. Cross-country skiing should eat most of my excess energy though and if the itch gets too bad I'll go hit some balls indoors a couple of times. I know the worst will be in around March when it should be getting better and you get all excited again counting the days but the winter simply won't go out without a fight.

I know that feeling... literally.
I've got golfer's elbow at the moment and told myself I would shut it down in December.
Well as the forecast is for good weather this weekend, I went to the range Tues and will play Sat/Sun. Especially with eBaying used irons and a driver I dying to get out there. Hopefully Christmas to New Years stuff will give me a break.

I'm a bit bummed that it's cold and I won't get to play for months, no doubt. But somehow that's better for my mindset than being in limbo from late-November to mid-April (like I was last year), hoping that a nice day will come along. That just got to be sort of a mentally exhausting way to approach a hobby.

For the most part though I am ready for a break. This year has been very frustrating. Last year I made strides and due to iron testing and warm winter hit more balls and played more last winter than ever before. This year I took a step backwards. Really frustrating. Part of the problem is I don't get to play near as much or practice as much as I would like or need to. If I play 2-3 times a month that is a lot. I'm thinking about quitting softball and probably give up coaching hockey so that I can play more. We will see. I am glad to be playing saturday but ready to shut it down till next year.

Those of us brave enough here in SW Michigan are still playing. I have however done the end of season cleaning on my clubs. Sat down today and scrubbed the faces, soles, backs of the irons. Got the soles of the wood, fairway and driver. Scrubbed the grips with warm soapy water and a wash cloth. Let them air dry and then put them back in the bag. This season is pretty much done. I'll take about a month and a half or so, only putting around the house until early February. Around that time I'll get the itch again to drag the sticks out, load up the truck and head to the hitting dome to loosen up.
This really is a sad time in Michigan...
The sad thing is that I will in all likelihood load up the truck and head to my home course once we get close to 45 again and no rain... We all do have a sickness with no cure...

Send email to wife, hay, we're playing Sunday at 9:45.
Response: "You have to be at your sisters house at 1."

(And I'm 43, but don't know of which you speak about bones/muscles and punishment in the cold. No issues here!!! )

When the weather does really turn, which it looks like will happen toward the end of next week, I'll have to make do with putting in the basement, the occasional trip to a couple of heated ranges nearby, and maybe a lesson or two, to make sure I'm continuing to make progress in my swing overhaul. Also planning to re-grip a few clubs and re-paint a couple of woods. Hopefully will be able to get back to it by March.
