With the season pretty much wound down, golf being pretty unplayable for the most of US and where I am, well 35*C and 95% humidity in the summer is enough to slow roast a chicken!

I will start and say that I started the year with a handicap of 9 and managed to practice my way into getting down to 2.7. The course I play at has a rating (slope) of even par, so you really do have to play to your cap. And, even though the rating is low, nearly 3/4 of all 18 holes have water in good places!

I have to say, I made a bunch of firsts this year! Got a lesson, shot a few rounds under par and played consistently!

Hoping to go + figures by the end of 2013!

So tell us how your 2012 went!!

That's very impressive Tincup! Nice job. :-)

I finally cracked the double digit barrier and finished at a 9.7, which was what I was hoping to achieve. The weather has been benign here and I have been able to break 80 a number of times. Winter is coming however, so we'll have to wait and see what the Spring will bring.
Hey...be nice.

I will never forget that feeling of going single digits, I think that is the only milestone I actually remember!!

I just finished my second year of golf.  I didn't practice as much as I wanted to, but I sure did play alot.  I dropped from hitting in the mid 100s (105-110) to consistently hitting in the low 90s.  I know I'm not cracking any double digit handicap barriers, but it sure feels good to have broken 90 for the first time!  Now I need to spend my winter on the range and hitting in the winter muck.  It should help me hit ball first :)  Next year it will be about breaking 90 consistently and getting a handicap so I can play in some of my clubs tournaments!

With scores like that, you'll get there. Pretty tough in Stage 2 this year, scoring was outrageous!

my stats are in my sig for this season.  pretty obvious i need to get my FIR and GIR up!  i'm happy my handicap is 3.8 this year...but it was one of those summers where i felt frustrated most of the year.  bad decisions, missed putts inside 6 feet, among other things had me thinking "that could have been so much better" after most rounds.

my goal this year was to break par and i never did so that was a little disappointing, though i did shoot under on a 9 a handful of times.

i think i'll dedicate this winter to working with a teaching professional, and possibly a golf fitness instructor.

also, that's awesome jimbob!  congrats

edit - just entered the 3 rounds i played this week and my handicap went from 3.8 to 2.9.  cool

Wow 9 to 2.7! Congrats.

I started a 7.7 went up to a 8.8 now I am at a 6.6. The year isn't finished yet and summer and holidays are here so hopefully I can get down to a 5.5 or even 4.4

I started as a 12 and finished as a 5. Had some great lessons during the year and really focused on hitting to targets and not so much on swing mechanics. Hope to improve my putting so I can go even lower next year.

I went from a 4 to a 7.  I've hit 226 snap hooks in a row or so with the driver.

I miss every green to the left and lost some distance overall.  Personal life, injurys, kids .... all that stuff.

Funny though, my short game has been sick the past 5 rounds have had the best scores of the year.  And my ball striking has been terrible!

I give my season a F-

No practice at all, no range, didn't take it serious and rode in a cart too much - turned into a weekend hacker!

Next year is my year though.

Hahaha I work 8-5 Monday-Friday, those are just specified 'office' hours, I usually work much later than that.
I think that with the way the work/life is getting these days, it's not how much you practice, it's the quality. I play a comp every weekend and usually try to get to a range after work for an hour (range has lights). I also stopped trying to hit my irons so friggin far and worked on ball control!

2012 was a success because in the few rounds I played, I got hooked. Two sets of new irons, new wedges, driver, etc are just the tip of the iceberg. I've started taking lessons indoor, on a Trackman, so I'm trying to be in awesome shape when spring 2013 hits. Hopefully taking lessons early on will pay off. I already have better posture and grip in the two lessons I've had, so I'm expecting to shoot in the low 90's next year.

2012 was a whole new experience for myself. I had previously been working at my hometown's golf course for the last 8-9 years, and thus had the opportunity to play as much as I wanted, usually 4-5 times per week.

This year, I have returned to school, and ended up having classes over the summer, so that got in the way alot. Also, being out of town, I no longer was working at my hometown's course. Basically, I ended up cutting my amount of playing golf down by almost 80%, maybe more.

On the bright side, I did begin to enjoy the rigors of practice alot more. Being a student again, on a limited on both budget and time, I found the range a welcome alternative. Whereas I used to practice half-heartedly maybe once or twice a month (i loved playing more), I put lots of dedication and focus into the range/practice sessions, because some weeks, I could only get away for a session under the floodlights.

When I did get on the course, results were mixed. I had figured I was in for a tough year from the beginning. Going from playing/working and being at the golf course every day, to a an occasional weekend warrior would be very tough, both mentally and physically.

My end result was no consistent play. I would hover around +2 to +4 some weeks,  and other weeks I was struggling to break 85 and keep the ball in play.

I will definitely look at 2012 as a learning experience, as i have learned throughout the year about proper practice, and the limitations of my swing and golf game based on being able to play limited rounds.

I can't complain.  Down from 17.3 in March to 11.9 current.  Stopped trying to hit rescue shots that turned into triples, worked a lot inside 100yds to include chipping from various lies around the green.  Also got a good fitting and the correct putter for me and have cut about 3 strokes per round putting.  Nice that we can still play here in TX as I'm looking to get that single digit by summer 2013.

Was my best season ever (well it was my first full season so not difficult). I started the year on the lowest possible handicap here in Germany (54 - they really want to encourage people to play) and am now down to 18.1.

I officially joined my club the previous October but I had no chance to play any tournaments and hence could not lower my handicap before Feb of this year. My goal had been 24 for the year but managed to get lower than that and last week capped the year off when I broke 90 for the first time when hitting 89 playing at Las Americas in Tenerife when on a golfing holiday.

Goals for next year would be to get down to 12 and work out why I tend to let rounds slip between holes 10 and 14.

I'm very eager to see what 2013 will bring for my golf game. For the last three seasons I've been plagued with injuries, I had two right wrist surgeries a few years ago and haven't been able to build up enough strength to keep from spraining it, so I took most of this year off to rehab it without the pressure of beating range balls. I did do a lot of putting and believe that I've really improved in that area. Here's to looking forward...

My knee has limited my play this season.  I am working to be physically stronger for next season.  My goal is to get into single digits from my current 12.9 handicap.
