When people talk about different programs like P90X or whatever I think it's important to remember that ANY program that creates motivation to do something where there was nothing done before is likely to be a great help.  Some people need some sort of program to get things started and that's where these are all just great.

I've been working out in one way or another since I'm a teenager and I'm 52 now.  I've tried many different things and watched how my body has responded.  That' why I prefer Kettlebells to dumbells and dumbells to free weights and free weights to machines in that order.  That's why I like anaerobic over aerobic exercise patterns and do very little aerobic exercise (doing intervals even when I DO jump on that rower or elliptical).

Anything that you do in the beginning is better than doing nothing if you are trying to get in shape.

For club head speed though it's another story.  Nothing is actually better than aerobic exercise would be.

"I am doing better than the majority of the U.S. population.  That of course is like saying I'm smarter than the average hamster.

The RIGHT kind of exercise means that you can eat the RIGHT kind of foods without concern for caloric intake.  Got it?"

Yes, I got it, but then again I "had it" from the beginning.  I actually agree with all of your points.  You are however, back peddling now from your previous statement where you claimed that diet was not as important as exercise and that you can "eat as much and pretty much anything you want" as a result of your workout/training methods.  I'm not being argumentative for arguments sake, but this statement simply is not true, and I think it was misleading and a disservice to others here who may take it at face value...so thanks for clarifying.

Diet/nutrition is every bit as important as exercise, and in subsequent posts you say so yourself.  I 100% agree with you about ketosis, intake of foods low on the glycemic index, anaerobic exercise, and how the body, and ones metabolism reacts to intense training as well as dietary inputs.  Absolutely spot-on!

P.S.  Although I agree with you and think it's great that you have found what works for you, using yourself (a sample of 1) as an example, carries no statistical significance, is purely anecdotal, and not really a great way to substantiate your point.

Nice to hear grizztrax. Its a good program to develop a good base strength. After you start stalling on the lifts look into Texas Method or 5/3/1.

Thanks for the heads up Sagan!  That is one thing I wonder about with SS.  How long can I keep going and where to go next. I will look into those programs.  Getting my base strength up has been the goal with SS, then look to sort of take it to the next level.  As long as my body is ok with it, I'll continue to lift heavy weights.

ssfran. I changed my routine this yr to gain more strength, I have two weeks left and then I will change. at 6'2 230,my strength is enough I don't  really need more. As a plus hcp my new program must be something that is easy to maintain and better suited for speed , I enjoy your posts your knowledge is good.Any suggestons as to what I can put in my new program, I have a home trx and love it, I will do some of this,  realistically a 2-3 day program, I don't workout during tournaments .

If you want speed then I'd do plyometrics and short anaerobic 8 second workouts with 30sec to 1 min. rest in between.  Battle rope exercises, Tornado ball, Speedchain, box jumps, jump rope, sprints, all excellent for this.  if you want speed you have to work out fast and hard and in short intense bursts.   You should google things on the net about how to run faster, jump higher, pick up bat speed etc. because they all are going to be similar to each other and to what you are going to want to do.

By the way....power and speed are pretty closely tied together.   F=MA
