My Dad just got a new bag of sticks (adams a12OS and speedline driver 3&5) after a 10 year hiatus from the game. His set didn't come with a sand wedge and i keep debating what to get him for xmas. I'd think the A12OS sand wedge wouldn't be very versatile around the greens (as he progressed) and hard to open up.

What do you guys think i should get him?  i was thinking along the lines of a Big Trusty Rusty or ATV wedge

My dad still has Ping i3+ in the bag, and his wedges are both Ping iWedges. They're really forgiving and still fairly versatile. You might look into those, they're probably pretty cheap now also.

Ping eye2 SW ... pick up an old one or a new XG one either way it is forgiving, opens enough to be versatile enough (although if he gets an older eye2 no plus it has plenty of loft as it is)

The inevitable end result is going to be a good wedge. Just bite off and get the Vokey now because that is what he'll end up with. Very versatile and can be ground to whatever he wants as he discovers what he needs.

Go with the matching wedges! Playing a A7os gw and old gt3 Adams sw-lw myself and find them versatile and yes,
              they will check quickly when struck properly for me!!

Thanks for the Input guys! but i just found a brand new CG14 for $40!  58 Degree with high bounce. Since they have a slight cavity back and high bounce he should be able to use it out of bunkers or the rough. and it didn't break the bank.. haha
