Yes, but a cross made of metal could be considered a cleverly designed insurance policy.
No... the temp would melt before you got to the center.
Important enough to have multiple security guards that communicate via covert, in-ear, radio devices.
No... It would be somewhat heavier, due to air compression and whatnot, but I wouldn't think that the full 2,000 pounds would register if you could put it on a scale.
