Our season here in Toronto is all but done, and I have begun my off season practicing indoors, and last night was rough.  I kept hitting my wedges and short irons all towards the heel, yet my longer irons and woods were pure.  What gives?  Could it be that I am standing too close to the ball with the shorter clubs, or maybe a case of trying to swing too hard?
Any advice would be awesome.

Thanks,
Rob

Had a similar problem mid-year for about 2 weeks.  Outta nowhere.

It seemed to go away when I re-focused on staying connected.  My arms were just flying away from my body too much.  Stay connected, back and through, problem went away.

Of course, I have no idea what you're issue could be, but good luck.

What kind of surface are you hitting off?  Brush style mats?  I have a lot of problems with brush mats and hosel rockets (esp. short irons).  I sole the club on the ground and with the brush mats, I can find myself falling a little forward at address (because the is no resistance from the ground) putting me out of position (too close) and while the swing feels good, it results in a shank.  I just have to be more cognizant of my address position and problem is solved.

I actually am hitting on those brush style mats. There could be something their.  As for flight, I typically play a high draw.
