I purchased a cleveland classic 290 driver off ebay on OCT 23. Week one goes by and nothing, so I start to try and contact the seller. No communication at all. Then week 2 goes by nothing and still no communication. So I filed a claim and this was the first time I heard back from the seller. So I finall received the driver this week and I am extremely disappointed in what the sell thinks is "like new condition". The ad did have pictures of actual club but did not show what I see now. So I filed another claim for item not describded correctly. And I get a email back from the seller trying to say I must have used it and made these marks I see and that he will not take it back. Am I out of line by wanting to send it back for a refund? Seller has been a jerk plain and simple.

Is that actually the packaging? lol OMG.

I can't comment on the condition as I can't compare to the listing pics. Did they say it was new? Or hardly hit?

Well, if nothing else, that's about the most creative packing job on a driver I've ever seen.  I don't know about like new, but it doesn't look to be in terrible shape.  I also don't know what you paid, but the marks on the sole and face look pretty normal and it's hard to see how noticeable the nicks on the topline or the shaft are since you've got the camera in super macro closeup.

Maybe you guys can work out a partial refund.  Also, did you buy it from an individual seller?  Those transactions always make me nervous.....  There's a reason they tend to be the best deals.

You should share the ebay name of the Seller so others don't become victims of this scam artist.  No way should that driver be described as "like new", and judging from the way he packed it, this guy clearly doesn't care much about his customers.

The water marks make it difficult to see the bottom but it looks like it was dropped on the concrete. And yes this is how it arrived. I wondered if it was in one piece.
Item was supposed to be "like new"

If it was me the only thing that would bother me is the idiot mark on the top. The rest seems fine. Like highergr0und mentioned. It depends on the deal you got.

But if I saw packaging like that I would have a heart attack intil I saw the club.

Please post the seller so we can avoid them.

Is this the ad?  Looks like it is since you can see the topline nick in about the same spot.  And well, the seller here also has a lot of negative feedback revolving around shipping and communication.  Only thing is the ad doesn't say anything about the condition, but maybe he altered it.....  but not many classics were sold on 10/23 that didn't have stock pics.

Yes that was the ad. I did ask the seller during the auction more about the condition and was replied to that the club was only used once or twice and was in like new condition. Should I just expect this condition because of what I paid? really just wanted the head for a driver project.

Sell is very poor on communication. After the claim was filed he states to paypal that item was shipped the day after the acution but was returned back to him. No proof of this was provided.

To be honest I don't even think I would have opened it when I saw that package. If it showed up that way, it would have been returned to sender and pay pal claim. Thats riddiculous to ship like that.

Your not getting anything out of this. You got it for a good price. Just take it as a lesson learned and move on.

It sucks I know. But your gonna get stressed out and it's not worth it.

Wow! I've never seen packing like that. What was the seller thinking? I would never ship something out like this. eBay is a hit or a miss and I'm glad I've lucked out so far.

I have to agree with JJGold, I would never buy from a seller with feedback like that.
With the way it was packed, I would agree that you have every right to send it back, or at least get shipping refunded, but I would leave negative feedback and file it under lesson learned.
For $77 its still an ok deal.

Holy crapola...was that the actual packaging!?

I would have filed a claim simply on that...wtf.  If the description said "like new", that definitely doesnt look anything in "like new" condition.  I would try to fight it, but honestly for 77 bucks, its a decent deal and its really not worth the headache.

i think its a pretty good deal. The "like new" thing wont hold on ya since I really dont see it in the ad. If you look thru the pictures in ad you can see that little chip in the top line of driver. I don't think you will see that at address tho. I would def leave negative feedback for seller and just chalk it up as I will never buy from ebay again if the seller does not have perfect feedback. Money wise, i think you got what you paid for.

THAT PACKAGE IS CLASSIC THO!!! I almost want that to be my new picture on here

I leave my claim outstanding and tell the seller I want a partial refund on it and for shipping 100%.

A quick look at the seller's feedback is enough to know to stay away.
Buyer beware and all that. With all the folks selling there, anything less than 99%+ is a no go. There is always going to be another deal at a later date.
'Done using eBay' is bit melodramatic.

How was it shipped? I mostly have experience with USPS only and they do not accept packages with anything other than clear packing tape. Was the package insured? I'm pretty sure USPS would reject that package on sight and tell the shipper to upgrade their packaging before accepting it for delivery.

I only ship with USPS also, and I've had to use duct tape a couple times before with no issue.  Heck, even their own Priority tape isn't clear. I'm guessing it depends on what office you use and how much of a pain the worker wants to be.

That's an iffy call to buy or not.  Sure he's below 99%, but the feedback is primarily slow shipping and bad communication, so at $77 maybe it's a good deal.  I wouldn't have believed him on condition, nor would I have expected the world.  You can see that topline mark in the pic.

In the end though, we can't always expect to make out like bandits on a deal.  I wouldn't quit ebay over it.  Just go and try to buy a used classic 290 in that condition and I'm sure you'll see at least $125 on the sticker.

What you've got to ask yourself is this. What's the best Cleveland Classic driver you could get for $77 outside of eBay? I'd think you'd be hard pressed to find one in better condition for even twice that much, locally.

Seller is obviously a complete mess, and I'd be sure to leave feedback that says so, but you aren't going to get that deal anywhere else.  If you want the club, I'd simply see if the seller is willing to refund shipping or something.  Don't remember if the "partial refund" thing on eBay has been enacted yet, but I imagine the only thing Paypal is going to do is tell you to return it for a refund, if that.  I haven't looked at the pics, but it sounds like you could tell it wasn't "like new", and PayPal probably won't even take that into consideration since it wasn't in the listing.

Either it's worth $77 to you, or you try to find one that's better and likely pay more.

THAT IS HANDS DOWN THE GREATEST PACKING JOB OF ALL TIME.  Can you imagine the look on the OP's face when that thing showed up?  IMO keep the club and leave negative feedback.
