I just returned from the driving range having finally tested my new 913D2.  Overall I was very impressed but was  surprised by just how loud the sound is at impact.  I'm not overly sensitive to these type of things but on at least two occasions my left ear was really ringing... sort of like from a firecracker going off near by.

I'm coming from the 910D2 and never noticed this issue. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I'll be on the course tomorrow for my first actual round and will post back.

Not with that head (haven't hit it yet), but definitely with others. I love the old Hi-Bore XL's, but I can't game them unless they have been hotmelted and am playing a soft compression ball. There are a number of others over the years that I bought used and had to dump just because of the sound. One of the reasons why I like the Callaway drivers - muted sound. I am a musician with overly sensitive hearing - I can hear conversations through walls from absurd distances and am sensitive to different frequencies of sound, so bear that in mind.

I'm a musician as well so I guess I'm sensitive to sound in a tuning sense but this was flat out "my ear hurts" sound.  Very tinny.  It could have been the range balls I was using but most reviewers on the site have mentioned the increase in impact sound from the 910D.

Thanks for the reply MG76.

I have the 913D3 and it sounds a little more metallic than prior driver versions, but I don't mind the sound.

Thanks jimb, could just be me!  And yes, it is a metallic, tinny sound.

No prob. I know that (ear hurts) sound very well when it comes to golf. You might find a totally different perspective if you get some hotmelt in the head, or try a different ball.

I really like the sound of these drivers. RBZ/R11s for me is ear pain.
913's definitely have a more tinny sound than my 910, But it sounds springy and explosive to me. I really like it.
I have demoed them before, but actually booked in for a fit up tomorrow arvo. Looking forward to it!! :-)

Agree my 913D3 gives me a ringing ear after about 20 balls.  Obnoxiously loud like the old Kasco and Cobra stuff..  If I am going to use it I will probably need to use ear plugs...A definite improvement performance wise over the 910 D3 but what a racket....

I agree it's very loud. My ears ring after 10 balls or so. I much prefer the sound of the 910.

I'm a diehard titleist user.  With that said, I'm really disappointed in the 913 D3.  I'm a feel player and sound goes with that for me.  I much prefer the 910 D3 for sound and feel. Both these heads are hotmelted. The 913 is still unacceptable for me.  Its a good thing I kept my 910 head.

So your staying with the 910D3? What shaft are you playing?

IMO, couldn't tell the difference.  I had the 10.5 D3 w/ a DI6 stiff and that was an awesome combo.  The 9.5 D3 w/ the stock Ahina 72 was terrible.  Went HIGH and short.  The shaft makes so much difference.  The 10.5 DI6 hit much lower than the 9.5 Ahina 72 stiff both on the A1 setting.

I'm going back to my 910 for now. I may try another gram or so of hotmelt on the 913 to compensate the sound.

I guess I must be used to my R11TP, because I really like the sound of the 913.  It sounds and feels hotter than the 910, at least to me.

I have the 913 D3 with a swing speed of 118-120 mph and if I catch it a little thin look out because it is extremely loud!  It is definitely a polarizing issue, I personally don't mind it and i like when there are people nearby because they will wonder what made that piercing sound.  I have also hit my buddy's 910 and I like that muted (compare to 913) sound.  Its kind of like a car with exhaust for better performance, its fun for a little to hear the exhaust rumble and turn heads but after driving it everyday you might want a quieter car sometimes.

Perhaps the combination of harder range balls and a semi-enclosed area made the 913D3 sounded louder? I have notice even my 910D3 sounded very loud when I practiced at various driving ranges. Out one the course I think it wouldn't be that loud. But like others have said, 913D3 does sound sharper/higher to me. The sound is similar to an aluminum baseball bat to me.

I have also noticed the tinny sound over the 910, but it is not too terribly loud.

The range is considered semi-enclosed? Unless your indoors on a Simulator I don't see what difference it makes. Also not all ranges use low end balls or only hard balls. Not mine atleaset.

I hit mine on the golf course and its still loud. This is the year of crappy sounding drivers.

Noticed the sound on the 913D2, but it was not resonant or tinny. It was louder than expected, but not displeasing. It was solid.

Apparently, you don't remember the 2nd generation Nike SQ - that was ear splitting, tinny, and resonating. I think its best use was as an emergency early warning system.

This was the first thing I noticed when I demo'd it. It was pretty surprising, as I have always associated Titleist woods with a really pleasant sound for well struck shots.

Agreed. The feel and sound of the 910 is far superior IMO.

The 913D2 seems a little louder than the 913D3, but don't mind the sound.  Came from a tour issue RBZ hotmelted and doesn't seem to bad to me.

I wonder if Titleist made the change because of complaints about other drivers being more "explosive." I know a lot of local Titleist staffers who played the RBZ last year because it was "hotter" according to them. Could be that the performace was no better, but the acoustics made the TM driver feel hotter.

Add me to the list of near deaf players... the 913 is certainly louder.  For me personally 90% of the shots sound great and explosive, but if I catch it towards the toe my ears start to bleed lol.  The other day I literally hit a ball on the range and without hesitation I went from follow through to holding my ears.  Perhaps we all didn't realize we were buying a training aid, similar to a tour striker.  When you strike the ball correctly it sounds heavenly, but when you miss the siren goes off :)

i tried the RBZ and talk about ringing the ears.  I actually like the 913 sound but I came off the 909 which i thought sounded very mute.  funny that someone mentioned sound = perception of explosiveness but i think there is definitely a correlation there

I think it sounds good.  I thought the 910 was too quiet.  It does sound a little more metallic, but my ears don't ring.  I have never experienced a driver hitting a golf ball make my ears ring.  Maybe it's the 115 mph swing speeds you guys have.  You guys want to hear a loud driver hit the Callaway x460.
