It doesn't matter how long it was, he proved he has what it takes.
I mean with all respect to LD and his fans, Luke is FAR behind Woods in golfing accomplishments. In fact I don't think Luke will get in the HoF unless he gets a major and Tiger could get 6 people in HoF with his record.
So, the worlds CURRENT no.1 golfer is a lifetime achievement award? THAT makes sense...
I've always been a fan of JN- best ever. And his current ranking proves it...

The issue was being discussed in this thread at length. I am not sure where you're going with this but if you go to page 1 and read the posts you can figure it out perhaps?

Nobody is saying that Luke Donald is better than Tiger Woods.
Even Luke would say he is not (better).

Yeah, Tiger does need to figure out his driver to win a Major, you're right...
Yeah and when he does he will have 15 more than Luke. Not to mention he has already won majors when he can't really find the planet with the driver, it's not as big if a deal when you aren't spotting almost every other top player 20 yards without hitting any more fairways.

This "you can't be #1 if you haven't won a major" thing pops up from time to time, but I've never heard anyone explain how the ranking system should be modified to incorporate this rule.

Anyway, with all that said I'd really, really like to see Luke win a major at some point in his career!

Now the only thing in golf he doesn't have on his resumé means he can't legitimately claim to be #1 golfer in the world. I really hope he gets a major soon, and I'm confident he will.

neat.
And now the overplayed, tired and predictable "He ain't no Tiger Woods" mantra has begun.
Awesome

Luke is workman like. He's steady. He has a great swing that for the most part holds up under pressure. But for most, unfortunately, he's no "cool hand Luke". Say what you will, Mr. Donald is a great golfer, I'm sure Messrs. Woods and McIlroy would be the first to agree.

What you're asking is would Luke Donald's career resume be bolstered by a Major win. And the obvious answer is YES.
But this has ZERO to do with the question at hand. I don't know why this concept is so hard for normally intelligent people to understand.

Starting to cook in three hours for 25 coming tomorrow. Someone hit me in the back of the head with one of those Covert drivers.
It's a tough call between who has won more money and who has bagged one Major that was won in conditions suited for his play, but has not factored in a Major since.....I'd have an easier time elevating ZJ far above LD if he can prove it wasn't a fluke. But he does have a Green Jacket so....
Tough call. It really is. I think Majors are important but I don't believe they are the end all be all. And if you asking me if ZJ should be ranked higher than LD because of a Masters win 5 years removed, then the answer is no.

Good post. I am in the same group. The guy is just consistently good. I hope he wins a Major soon just so we can put an end to this discussion. Have a good Thanksgiving.
