One of the most influential guys in our sport retires and not a peep on this forum.  He's had a hand or overseen major aspects of our game (C.O.R. limit, 460cc limit, adjustable clubs and grooves) and likely seen more clubs than any ardent WRXer.  For better or worse he might have had more influence on how we currently play the game than anyone else in the last 12 years.

One wonders who will be the replacement (please don't let it be another Frank Thomas) and what kind of direction he (or she) will take the game?  Anyone hear anything about who might take on the role?

Pretty significant job these days. The next 10 years are going to be a battle of those who want to roll back the game and those that don't. When the long putter ban gets announced that will be 2 rollbacks and the floodgates will essentially be open. Things like the ball, SGI irons, driver size, hybrids...anything, is going to come under attack the same way those things did. It will be interesting because obviously the person selected will play a big role. I hope they pick someone under 40 LOL

I'm sure the manufacturers are sad to see him leave. A regulator with his head buried in the sand who contributed to fundamental changes in the way the game is played. Hopefully his replacement will possess the courage to defend the game.

I didn't always agree with him (grooves specifically), but he was always ready to help you out with any prototype questions and sometimes the answer was bad news.   Provided lots of guidance and was fair.  I wonder whether his long-term study on the golf ball will die or be continued by his successor?
