Yes, he is nr 1 in the world and he also is my favourite player (tied with Tiger). But it seems he needs perfect conditions in order to perform. Everytime the wind turns up, he misses cuts (like today) or shoots himself out of contention. It seems he isn't able to change his shots to suit the conditions. And his stock high draw gets him in all sorts of trouble when the wind blows up. He even said after the Open last year, that he didn't want to change his game for one turnament.


I can't remember that he has been in contention in any turnaments with wind. So is he limited or is my memory very fuzzy, and he actually has been good in windy weather?

I think you expect too much from him.  No one performs at the top of the game every session.  Your game  
ebbs and flows with your attitude, physical and mental condition.  I haven't noticed any short comings in
his game.

He can't win 'em all. Neither could jack or tiger.

He's has put a few good rounds in during windy conditions but I get the feeling that if he's not in contention on Saturday  or Sunday then he gives up quite easily. Not much of a grinder.

I probably have to high expectation, and he can't win'em all. But after a couple of years I have found out that when he is out of contention,  there is always difficult weather. And during his troubles in april to june this year,  there were several windy tournaments.

I agree with the 23 part...hes young. He will either learn to play better in bad conditions, or make so much money from majors and nike he wont need to grind the others. We will see what he grows to be.

How do you figure out who is your favourite player?  Do you assign point values and then add them up?  How did Rory and Tiger tie?  Enquiring Minds want to know.

I think from next year you will see him doing what tiger does and playing a lot less which has worked for tiger and will work for rory,watching him yesterday and today he looked knackered and he should be he's played a lot of golf lately

I totally get the notion that you can't win them all but as #1, you should make the cut, especially at a tournament you are defending.  Looks like he needs to trim his schedule so he can stay focused when he's playing.  Or maybe Tiger's reign at #1 just spoiled us all.

points...and both tied at 272.375125....how wild is that?  The next guy was fred couples.....he was 34+ ticks below that.

Anyways. He is number one by a large margin in the world, so offcourse everyone would want his game right now. But I was hoping anyone here could agree or disagree with him playing bad in windy conditions. And if so have the knowledge to compare that with his game.

I think he is limited for now.  It seems he has one shot and does not have all the shots Tiger did.   Tiger won with a bunch of increadible shots from off the fairway, chip shots, amazing putts.  He was able to adapt and win all four majors.  With that said, Tiger did used to go to certain tournaments b/c they set up better for him than others.   But I get your drift.  It seems *for now* Rory is one dimentional.  He seems to win only when his driver puts him in the fairway and seems to only really have one shot.  He does not seem to adapt very well.  But give him time.

Edit, - as to the wind, he won the Toyota, it is always blowing hard there.

Well then good thing they play in perfect conditions 90% of the time, and he can figure out how to demolish the field 4-5 times throughout a year.

Wait, Tiger won the Open Championship only in perfect conditions, we got 2 limited players on the top of our game. Golf is weak nowadays

I do think Rory is limited...he is bound by the laws of physics and gravity...other than that, I think he'll be an even better player as he gains more experience and I don't think there really are limits to what he could potentially accomplish.

You got that right.  But I do think the OP's critism is fair - he is #1, but somewhat one-dimentional *for now*.   Maybe he should go see Butch and get the Mc-il-slam...

Whether we know it or not I think a lot us compare Rory to Tiger and that's why questions like this arise. Tiger has missed 9 cuts in his 16 years on tour and by using that metric it's easy to say Rory is inconsistent.

My coach was in Vegas this year for the Timberlake.  He commented on how high MANY of the tour guys hit it...even on the par 3 holes.  He joked he could check his messages and call home before the ball came down.  The new proto prov seems to do very well in windy conditions...holds line very well.  I don't think that is what is getting the guy in trouble, but I don't follow his game that closely.

maybe your right but as its been mentioned tiger only seemed to pick the courses he liked now rory is at the top he will probably do that now

Windy conditions is definitly not one of Rorys strongest sides (not saying he's weak). I think it's an experience thing (many old players that handle it better).. Many "good weather" players that sometimes can crush the course in good weather, plain suck in bad weather. Just look at some of the guys who has shoot record scores, None of them can play in windy conditions.
