Very simple... Most golf ho's will have bought a number of new clubs & equipment during 2012... which of them impressed you, and which of them quickly found their way to the 2nd hand bin?

My favourite purchases:
- Ping i20 Driver. 2nd best driver I have ever owned, and can't see anything knocking it out of my bag in 2013.
- Ping G20 4 wood. Same as above.
- Scotty Cameron GoLo. Took a while to get comfortable lining it up, but now I have, anything inside 10 feet is automatic. Best feeling putter ever too.
- Puma Poulter shoes. The BEST shoes EVER.

Worst purchases:
- TM RBZ Tour TP 3 wood. It went miles, but hardly ever went straight. I received it on the day of release, and 2 weeks later it had been sold on eBay. I know lots of people swear by them, but I couldn't get on with it from day one.
- TM RBZ Tour TP 3 hybrid. Same as above.
- Scotty Cameron California Del Mar. Impossible to line up, and a really clunky feel. This one lasted 3 weeks.

Good:
Nike VR-S Forged Irons 5-PW:  Great feeling clubs.  Easy to get up in the air and still workable despite being considered on the more forgiving side.
Nike Method Midnight 006:  I still have the 001, but could never really get comfortable with the "circle" alignment aid.  006 has the full sight line on and the finish looks great.
Nike VR Pro LTD fwys:  Love the feel and the distance.  Easy to work.

Questionable:
Nike VR Pro hybs 3 and 4:  Feel at contact is good, but  I think the weight is off for me.  Too much shaft weight and not enough head weight.
Nike Drone Belly:  Easy to use, but I think I'm better with the short putter.

Bad:
Ping G-20:  Hot off the face, but control was horrible.  Distance doesn't work when it's 30 yds off line.

Good purchases:

Adams Fast 12 LS- absolutely the best driver that I have played. Forgiving, low spin, and goes miles. Pretty easy to aim with the silver crown/black face.
Mizuno MP 64- In my opinion one of the best set of irons ever made. Feel is superb, easy to work, and fairly easy to hit.
Adams Xtd 17*- One of my favorite clubs in my bag. I actually owned two of these, the first had a rombax 8d07 and looked like it sat a little closed at address. I couldn't  get along with this club to save my life. I found a used one with a TourSPX VTS sliver in it and WOW. Easy to hit, and goes FOREVER. Nike VR LTD.-Best 3 wood ever made. Hands down the most reliable club in my bag. Easy to work, goes for miles, and for a deeper faced club pretty easy to hit off of the deck.

Bad purchases:

Nike VR Pro Combo-I liked pretty much everything about these except for the long irons. The pocket cavity just sounded horrible to me and I had a hard time controlling the trajectory with them.

- Scotty Newport 1.5 - The black finish on this is awesome!!
- Mizuno MP 32 - Bought these cheap of eBay to play with in the mornings when I like to walk a few holes.  These things are awesome, just wish I had the game to play them in meaningful rounds....

Medium
- Nike VR Pro 4 wood - I'm still fighting with this club.  It launches the ball high, but not as long as I would like and has a tendency to hook, even when set up 0.5* open.  I'm still working with it though.

Bad
- Nike VR Pro 3 hybrid - This thing is short for me.  I bought it to go between the 4 wood and 4 iron.  I can hit my 4 iron farther than this thing...

They have a file on him at the local retailer - He had to call and get them to fax the list over so he could post it.

He nailed it on the RBZ 3w.  That thing is a terrible club.  It's a liability in your bag.  It might be long off a wooden peg but its nothing off the deck and can be replaced by one of many great 3 woods out there.  I'd rather choke down and bunt my driver on a tee box where I didn't need the full driver distance.  Then put an honest 3w in the bag.  Sorry to the guys that still like to use it as a conversation piece.

He had the version 1 Ansers as did I.  The new ones are much improved.

I'm glad to hear they were Anser V1 irons, as the new ones are near the top of my list of potential new irons.

I just hit one of these for the first time and it felt GREAT.  Loft was only 8.5* which is a bit too low for me, but I was hitting it straight and I loved the sound.

Good:

Ping Anser Driver - Performance is amazing for me.
Nike Vr Pro Limited 3 wood - great feel and very hot off the face. Not to mention, I love the headcover.
Scotty Cameron Studio Select Fastback No. 1 - Bought it off a WRXer, and love the custom paintfill, as well as making putts a lot more consistently.
Scotty Cameron GoLo S - Great backup to my Fastback, not to mention love the looks and soft feel.
Titleist AP2 712 - Love these irons, because this has been the only iron set that I've felt very comfortable with.
Titleist Vokey SM4s -  Same deal as my AP2s. Just feel very comfortable with these wedges and love the looks.
Srixon ZTX 5 Wood - Great looking club, easy to hit, feels great.
Cleveland Classic Tour Driver -  Love the looks, the Miyazaki shaft and the feel. Great backup in case my Anser fails me.
Odyssey Protype - Great looking putter and the feel is awesome.

Worst:

Taylormade RBZ 3 wood - Like the white paint, but it was too big and hated the feel. Not to mention, I didn't see 17+ yards haha
Scotty Cameron California Del Mar - Felt really heavy and feel was terrible
Titleist CB 712 2 iron - I don't know what I was thinking when I bought this, but suffice to say, I'll stick to hybrids or woods.
Ping Anser 3 wood - I don't know what it is, but this club and I just didn't get along as well as the Ping driver and I did.
Taylormade ATV wedges - Feel was just okay, and I couldn't get over seeing a metal flap sticking out from behind the face.

Bettinardi BB35 putter; this became my "go-to" putter for tournaments, and i easily paid for the putter many times over with tourney wins that were almost entirely tied to putting

2nd BEST (TIE):
GD ad-di 7x driver shaft
footjoy BOA lacing system -- i used to have to double tie shoes and the laces would still come loose; problem solved with BOA!

HONORABLE MENTION:
golf pride whiteout grips; in another thread a GP rep said they had not improved the lower rubber portion of the grip, so, i don't know why, but there is no question the whiteouts held up FAR better than previous ndmc grips

WORST:
RBZ 3-wood: didn't beat out my 6-year-old 2007 TM burner tp
R11 (with various shafts): didn't beat out my 2010 TM superfast tp
Adams XTD Ti FW and hybrid: man, that fubuki stock shaft was soft; i had no clue where the FW would fly (hybrid was better, but...) and for $300 clams each a bad gamble on my part (FW didn't beat out aforementioned 2007 TM burner tp, and hybrid didn't beat out my very old cleveland hi-bore)

Super Awesome:
3 James Patrick bespoke wedges. I worked with JP to build my own lob wedge line - one of the cooler golf-related things I have done. One I gave to my buddy as a wedding present. The other two I alternate depending on course conditions, as they have different bounce and sole grinds (one for softer conditions, one for hard).

Very Awesome:
Fubuki k-series for my Titleist 909D and 909F. Monster shaft - launches touch lower than the Fubuki alpha (old shaft) but feels much more stable.
Miura 1957 series C-grind in 55*. I also own a 57*, but purchased a 55* so I could drop my GW.

Definitely Above Average:
Nike Method Core 4 putter.
Super Stroke Fatso 85.
Callaway 52* GW. I've never been happy with my GW (honestly, I really wish Cally would make an X-Prototype/RAZR MB GW) and tried to replace it. I liked this wedge, but eventually ditched the GW in favor a stronger SW and weakened 4-PW lofts.

About Average:
KBS C-taper. A failed iron reshafting experiment. I've been playing KBS Tours in a set of Cally X-Protos for a while and really like the set up, but for some reason I felt the need to tinker. I tried the C-tapers and thought they were OK. I didn't really like the feel. I also think they were too stiff for me - went with S+ but should've gone with S or maybe even R+, as these shafts seem to "play" much, MUCH stiffer than the advertised flex would indicate.

Not a Fan:
True Temper Tour Concept shaft in my Cally X-Protos. Another failed reshafted experiment. Blech. I went back to my KBS Tours after 2 rounds. Yech. I did not care for the feel (better than Project X - my standard for harsh feeling shafts - but no where near as good as KBS). The ballflight was also horrifying - low and knuckling. I really wanted to like these shafts but they did just not agree with me.

Should Have Just Lit My Money on Fire:
Sun Mountain 3.5. Bought a new bag in the spring and already the legs are giving out. I generally love Sun Mountain bags, but this one is just kind of crappy. Also, the club partitions are covered in extremely rough fabric that scratched my graphite wood and hybrid shafts. Grrr...

I got lucky this year. Every club I purchased stayed in the bag all year. And I'm happy enough that I really doubt there will be any changes next year. First time in over a decade I can make that statement.
My "go to" club is the oldest club in my bag. The only stiff shaft in my bag. 19 degree TaylorMade Raylor with a steel shaft. IMO the original "hybrid".

Kind of Bad:
Callaway Diablo Octane TOUR, 10.5 degree head w/Stiff shaft:  I'm fighting this one a little bit.  Ridiculously high trajectory and only a major swing change can keep it from drastically fading right..  Researched a little further and found out the tour head is 1 degree "open", which might explain the high trajectory and the excessive "fades" (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!).  My traditional miss is a block/fade, so I really do not want a driver that enhances my misses! Thinking about trying to the regular head which is square.

Cleveland 588 Black Pearl 56 degrees....Not in love with it, but gets the job done

Worst-

Cleveland Classic 270 Driver...I got the R shaft as my SS is somewhere around 95 and it played incredibly weak to flex. I also found its deep face to be very unforgiving

Odyssey White #7....I'm no Luke Donald with this thing.

Ping Redwood ZB....I loved how it looked at address, but it's too heavy for me. I had awful distance control.


Used

Outstanding-

Ping G-10 driver....This club has turned me in to a very good driver of the ball overnight.

Old school Ping putters....O Blade, Anser, A-Blade and Anser 3. Love these! Great distance control and love the crisp feel off the clubface. No more expensive milled putters for me. I got 6 putts better per round switching to the Anser 3 from the Cameron.

Worst-

Cameron Circa 62 #1.....Had me fooled...Loved it indoors, but was a dog when it mattered. No distance control at all...Too heavy for my taste.

Nike VR Pro LE 3w
This was a slight change from my SQ II 3+ and while the distance and forgiveness were slightly bumped, I'd say it offered a little less 'feel.' Great club for a good 3w player who prefers control and workability. I love it!

Adams Pro Black Hybrids (20*/23*)
They went on sale. I bought them. I've never fallen in love with a hybrid but these seem to be the closest thing I've ever found to finally settling down. I'll probably still roll with my SQ II 5w instead of the Pro Black 20* on most days but the hybrids seem to have a nice trajectory which isn't too low or too high and what's best is that they don't seem draw-biased so I'm able to work the ball and feel more confident that the clubs will respond like long irons do.

Titleist ZM Blades
I switched from NIke's TW Blades to these and while I find that I'm hitting the ball slightly higher, I don't quite feel as though they're as buttery soft as the Nike's for whatever reason. Maybe it's the forging or the thicker top-line or the shafts, I'm not sure. They're good clubs though. Nothing extraordinary. I'd like to go back to Nike and get a set of the VR Pro II Blades when I can afford it. I think they'd offer the same benefits with even better feel.

DGX100 Shafts
I had S300's with everything prior and the Titleist ZM's were the first clubs I've owned that had X100s. I thought it might be a tough switch but it wasn't at all. I like the slightly flatter ball flight but I'd consider switching back since I'm probably a borderline player when it comes to the Stiff vs X debate. The S300s would probably be better since they'd feel softer.

CG15 58*
I replaced my 60* VR wedge with this Cleveland which also has more bounce and while I'm still adjusting to the club I certainly think the 3 CGs (50, 54, 58) I have are ideal. I might wind up dropping the 54 since the 50/58 combo would allow me enough flexibility while still forcing me to develop my touch game around a single lofted wedge.


On Deck for Review & Replacement:

I'm still playing a Nike VR Tour driver which I might wind up switching out in the next year. When the 910s drop in price I might switch over to a D2 or D3 to gain the advantage of some adjustability. I didn't have any luck with the Nike Method (001) so I sold it and switched back to my trusty Cleveland Classic. I need to improve my putting so as I practice I may eventually wind up with either an Odyssey mallet or a nice milled Scotty anser knock-off ( )depending on the direction I want to explore.

Who knows though?

RBZ 3 wood - I believed the hype but it didn't work for me
F11 Ti 3 wood - as above - just went left
CB3 4 wood - maybe the shaft but couldn't get it off the ground consistently
Aerolite bag - horrible pockets and don't like the divider system

Great
RBZ 3W Tour 14.5* - Club is absolutely magnificent in all aspects. Yes, from the start I had a Fubuki Alpha X-Stiff flex put in so I don't even now what the stock shaft was like. But this club was great off the tee and the turf when I needed it to be.
RBZ 3H 19* - Was actually my first purchase of the year. This club was also absolutely magnificent for me. I've got a couple short par 4's on my home course where this was perfect off the tee, but also constantly reaching par 5's in two with this club.
Adams Idea Pro A12 23* - Workable, solid, feel very confident when I swing this club.

Not so Great
Nike VR Pro 24* - my first try with a hybrid in the 23-24 degree range. Just couldn't get this thing to fade at all. I figured with the small head that this would be easy to work but just couldn't get it to do what I want.
Odyssey White Ice #9 - Really liked the way this putter looked and set up. Hit some putts in the store and thought I was sold. Took it to the course and just about every putt I hit felt dead. Just never seemed to hit that spot on the face that made it feel smooth.

I've never been a fan of Matrix shafts, so in hindsight I guess I should have experimented a bit more before getting rid. To me the RUL 70 in the 3 wood and the Altus 85 didn't feel a particularly good match with the heads. The ball felt great off the face, but I simply couldn't achieve any consistency. The weird thing is, my first shot with both the 3 wood and the hybrid were absolutely perfect, but unfortunately I can count on one finger the number of subsequent shots that I would even consider to be half-decent!
