That's awesome! When I went to bay hill I was hitting balls 2 over from him where he had his little sealed off corner. I was so afraid he'd make a comment when he saw me hit a massive hook with a club.

I've met Arnie a couple of times, he always comes "home" for the holidays.

Two words: Nice guy.

HT3P have you ever heard the story about his encounter with Ben Roethlisberger at Latrobe?

Lot's of places saying that incident never happened. Although it would have been cool if it did.

HT3P have you ever heard the story about his encounter with Ben Roethlisberger at Latrobe?

I have....Supposedly that encounter allegedly took place at Laurel Valley. Although that didn't really happen, I have heard of a few encounters with Big Ben at a number of clubs. They have all indicated that he is a ***** on the golf course. So although the story itself is plausible, that one in particular is a myth nonetheless.

One club in particular (name withheld but not LV) has asked him not to return. (The club manager told me this in person and I have no reason to doubt him)

Ben showed up unannounced with two buddies, races onto and around the course, telling members and players to basically get outta the way. Stiffs everyone, including the beverage cart, unloads his bags into his truck and drives away leaving the carts in the lot.

I have heard other (some golf, some woman related) tales regarding Ben's crappy attitude, but that's the only one that I have heard firsthand.

Personally, I have met him 3 times, but they were at social type events, and in my experience, he was a gentleman. Perhaps the surroundings had something to do with his attitude.

Charlie Batch (Pittsburghs' backup qb to the backup qb) on the other hand, is about one of the nicest, most genuine folks one could encounter.

Cool Arnie pic, did he give you the secret to the perfect Arnold Palmer? The ratios, tea first, lemonade first? We need to know man.

Why is anyone surprised that Ben "Rapist" Roethlisberger is a tool on the golf course. Obviously the guy doesn't think basic rules of human decency apply to him.

That is a great story!  I'm not sure I would know what to say if I ran into Arnie.  I'd probably look at my feet and mumble something about how I like his Arnie Wear shirts...

That man has done more for golf than any other six, or ten combined. Approached him once at the opening of one of his courses. Asked sheepishly, "can I get a picture?" We took several AND he catted us up for a good five minutes. Signed autographs and told us to 'have fun on my course."
Sent my son over to a Tour Pro, who was paid handsomely for his time, son asked for an autogrph. Tour Pro looked at him, threw down his 'ciggy' and walked away. I like to think Mr. Palmer might have given this guy some words of 'encouragement.'. LOL Never be another like him!

I'm a 32 year old golfer, so I never got to see him in his prime. However, I love the man. Complete class and a true ambassador for the game I love.

Cool picture. But honestly guys, you need to learn to dress appropriately when at a nice resort/private course, you look like slobs.

From what I've heard by people who've met him, on the course or on wrx, is that everybody has their own "Arnold moment." I don't think I've ever heard more amazing things about another human being. I haven't yet, but would love to meet him.
Now that I think of it, I think I have a buddy who's buddies with him actually. Gotta get on that.

That's cool.  I met him when I lived in Northern Virginia.  He was the President's Cup captain.  I was playing pool in the hotel bar when he walked by with a group.   I said, "Good luck tomorrow Mr. Palmer."  He stopped, came back and talked to the 6 of us.  He bought us another round and asked if we were going.  I told him it was sold out and we couldn't get tickets.  He took my name and told me to stop by will call in the morning.  We got there and had VIP tickets.  Awesome!  During the opening tee shots I saw him across the ropes and tipped my cap.  He walked maybe 50 yards, shook my hand and called me by name and asked if I needed anything.

Probably the best ambassador the game has ever had.

I met Arnold in1983.  I could barely speak I was so nervous meeting the hero of my life at that time.  His wife Winnie was so nice to us.  I think Arnold liked my wife more than me.  I can easily understand that.

We were photographed with Arnold standing with me and my wife.  I still display that framed photo in my house.

I agree with your changes.  It was pretty cool.  He was the captain and took time out during the match to come over and say hello.
