Insomnia sucks but sometimes you can catch news early from the other side of the pond, Interesting decisions indeed.  Oh yeah, the golf channel contributed100% to this report.

Trying to find the right combination to win his first major, Lee Westwood has reportedly parted ways with both injured caddie Billy Foster and newly hired short-game coach Tony Johnstone.

According to a report Thursday in the Daily Mail, Westwood was holding out hope that Foster, who tore the ACL in his knee during a soccer game in April, would return at the end of the season, but the caddie’s knee is still not yet strong enough.

Mike Kerr has filled in for Foster since August, but the relationship grew complicated when the Zimbabwean recently was offered a full-time gig with Sergio Garcia, according to the report. Westwood opted instead to keep Kerr.

“Billy was extremely disappointed, as you can imagine,” said Chubby Chandler, Westwood’s manager, according to the report. “But Lee is at that stage of his career where he has to be a little bit selfish. He’s only got four or five prime years left, and he simply can’t afford to mess about with this one coming up.”

For Westwood, it was the latest shakeup in a year full of them. Earlier this year, the world No. 4 announced that he was moving to South Florida. Then, after the PGA Championship, he fired swing coach Pete Cowen and hired Johnstone, a short-game guru. But that relationship soured, according to the Daily Mail, after the Englishman’s chipping woes during the final round of the WGC-HSBC Champions, where he tied for sixth.

Said Chandler, according to the report: “It just wasn’t working out.”

I agree the daily mail is a turd publication but they wouldn't print this without some truth to the story. Some interesting changes indeed. I guess it's not a bad time to shake it up. Would hate to see him finish his career without a major. He certainly deserves one.

Chopping and changing, looking for the magic fix. Not usually a great sign.

The story seems to be a bit more complicated than the Mail makes out - apparently Billy isn't expected to be able to be on the bag week in and week out.  I'm not sure changing caddy is quite the same as the other changes he has been making - more of an enforced change, accelerated by the offer by Sergio Garcia

Yeah the caddy thing isn't too surprising. I mean he is used to this new guy now and they probably have developed a good relationship after nearly a full season. But let's face it, Chandler is right, there aren't too many prime years left for him to win his major. And he doesn't have the time to adapt to this short game coach. If it' not working, it's not working.

Yeah, talking more about his short game yips. Question is, what now? Go back to what wasn't working before -- or head on off to see the next guru. Lee got his long game back by grinding at it, but it doesn't seem like he's been willing to make the same investment in his play around the greens.

I'm not sure how long the current caddy has been working for Lee, but he did have an Australian guy, Mike Waite from early May.

<http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/golf/article-2144313/Lee-Westwood-uses-Mike-Waite-stand-caddie.html>

He's certainly doing everything in his power to win some majors. I personally think he's waited 10 years too many but better late than never as they say.

I am not sure getting rid of Johnston was a good move. He seems like he is getting impatient and trying to force things. That skulled pitch just seemed robotic and timid. I think if he had put in the hours with Tony he would have seen it. His putting seemed better from the little I saw.

Sergio won a tournament and played well in others during the FedEx 'playoffs' without a regular caddie. Maybe that is the formula Sergio should keep and one Westwood should consider. ;)

I love the man, but he is devoid of touch and feel.  No coach is going to change that.  And firing coaches because you can't execute isn't going to help either.

Having said that, he ripped off my trademark move in that video.  I'll sue

The actual clank, or the "Oh for **** sake!" afterward? It's important to be precise when contemplating legal action.

Billy Foster, shouldn't have gone to play soccer that night and injured himself....... Should have taken his career a bit more seriously.

I am sure if he didn't get injured he would still be bagging for Lee.

Billy Won't be without a bag for long, wouldn't suprise me if he goes to someone else inside ISM. Maybe back to Darren Clarke.

I used to really admire westwood but he seems to be creating his own downfall. I think what people forget is that he just hasn't practised the shortgame like everyone else because of all the gir's he hits. So he doesn't feel the short plus imagine the shots he's trying to hit.I saw him working with the glorious mark roe, far too technical. The short game is an art. I felt Johnstone was making a difference especially in the putting. thing is westwood is a miles better player than poulter for instance, but poulter believes he's the best and that's what matters. we'd all die for their games but you can't buy confidence, trust and belief.

Paul- Billy's interview in the Daily Mail of 15th November explains that he wasn't playing in the match. He says "My foot went in a hole and you could hear the crack 20 yards away".

I think Westwood is struggling at the moment. I can't understand getting rid of Pete Cowen, Billy or Tony Johnstone at all.

Hopefully it turns round and he gets settled as he is a top player and I love seeing him do well.

A bit unfar on JP, who Rory really seems to rate - could be argued that given Rory's acheivement in the last couple of years compared to Lee's shows how much (or little) the caddy contributes to a player's success.

We shouldn't feel too sorry for Billie tbh. He's been on the bag for Gordon Brown Jnr, Seve, Sergio, Clarke, Tiger (when Stevie had a baby) and Lee and has probably been to more Ryder Cups than any caddie. He's obviously very sort after and I wouldn't be surprised to see him on a top bag next year. I'm gonna guess Sergio.

To get the story straight, Billy's doctor said he could only caddie one week on, one week off. Lee's schedule includes 6 weekends in a row, from February so it wouldn't make sense to have a different caddie every weekend. I'm sure he'd prefer to have his mate Billy on the bag, but at this stage in his career, he needs continuity. It seems to me that he had little choice. You can totally understand Lee's frustration not getting a major (7 top 3s in the last 5 years) and now he's running out of time, he's at the stage of clutching at straws, instructor wise.

Rory rates JP because he stays out of his way. Rory could win with me on the bag!
A caddie needs to be able to interject at crucial times. That takes a certain personality.
Last years masters? Everyone and his dog was screaming at the screen for JP to have a word in Rory's ear but it never happened. Rory plays some incredible golf shots, looks over to JP and NOTHING but a cheesy grin.
Billy is a class act. Been there, done that. In that masters situation do you think the result would have been the same with Billy on the bag?
I personally am not a fan of Stevie, but paired with the right player he can make a difference. I just do not see JP being like that.
I am not saying JP is not a good caddie, he clearly is, it's just i would not put him in Billy's league.
This is just my opinion
