Thinking about dropping my 3 hybrid and going to a utility iron/driving iron. Wondering what are some of the best ones out on the market?

Just got my Mizuno H4 2-iron and haven't hit it yet, but I'll keep everyone posted.  The Callaway utility irons also look excellent and they could have a winner there.  Those aren't out until December I think.

I just ordered mine today, MP-H4 2 iron. Mizuno is selling its product as an easy to hit iron, Callaway marketing theirs as a player's iron. And taking into account is a 2 iron, the hardest to hit club in the bag, I decided to go for the Mizuno instead of the Callaway.

Definitely post reviews when you have chance to hit them. I'm ordering one of these too, so would love to see what others think of it.

I'm a self-confessed driving iron ho, and have a PRGR 200i 2 iron, a PRGR 040i 3 iron and a Bridgestone J33 Airmuscle 3 iron in the rotation. Still deciding which one I like best, but theyre all excellent. The PRGRs are ridiculously long, but the J33 has the most iron like profile. Like them all much better than the Fli HI I used to have.

Will do.  I'll know on Saturday, which is the next time I'll play.  I played a 2-iron throughout high school and college, but most 2-irons were almost obsolete by then or shortly after.  Plus, the older 2-irons were difficult to hit if you weren't swinging well, so I'm curious about this new H4.  I've hit the H4 4-iron and thought it was nice.  The 2-iron shouldn't play much differently.

I guess I'm a driving iron junkie, too!  I actually stopped carrying anything longer than that. Keep in mind that many of the modern hollow-body "driving iron" are not going to be adjustable for lie angle like your normal irons.  So integration into the set of irons needs to be considered.  I bought a hollow-body Mizuno Fli-Hi and ended up trading it for an older forged model for adjustability.

I do have an extra old forged Hogan one-iron I'd sell for dirt cheap ($10) plus shipping in case anyone wants a taste of a driving iron before spending lots of money. Consider it charity,... sort of.

The most played Mizuno iron on tour is the MP-FlHi.

That says a lot.

The FliHi has a deep CG and launches the ball perfect, smooth stop on the green and it´s really very forgiving.

For all guys, who hook their hybrids, IMO the FliHi is the perfect club.

I was considering getting a matching 3 iron for my MP 53 set, would you guys recommend going with a 3 fli hi instead?

It is my understanding the J33 is no longer allowed in tournament play, it was a great club but it seems many WRXers play in tournaments.  Looks like the Mizzy's are in the lead

At $250 a pop off ebay they better be good!

Can you still buy the Fli-Hi from Mizuno, or only on the secondary market?

I've been loving my Miura IC-2003 3 iron! Been looking everywhere for a 2 iron that I could bend a few degrees strong to get a true driving iron, but no luck so far...

Sorry, I was wrong.  They are conforming until 2014, but for the pro's they were noncomforming effective 1/1/10.

hmmm, I can't be because of the grooves though, right? I thought anything under 25 degrees was exempt.

Not sure, simply passing along what is on the bridgestone site.

The most costly is always the way to go.
I mean, you just don't want to skimp on your driving iron, c'mon now... :)

For the guys who have played them, what are the differences between the original forged fli hi and the newer cast version?

I second that on the PRGR!  I miss mine already.....Ha!  I made the mistake of selling it recently on here to some dude named Bulldurham!  Just kidding with you bull!  Well, I don't guess there's any need to ask how you're liking it!

I have the MP-H4 in 2 and 3 irons....love them both...higher trajectory than a typical iron, but lower than a hybrid...very, very forgiving as well....

I'm likely to add the wish on 870ti 3 iron to the bag. The 4 iron added 20 yards to what I had been hitting my 4 in my old set at the same loft, I would love the 3 bent stronger yet and see how long she will go.

I bent my forged Fli-Hi to 15*. Its a great club but the one I have does have some offset and closed face (if I recall), do it can be a hook monster at time. But it does feel like I'm hitting the ball with a hammer,... and make the ball feel like a marshmallow.
