I'm looking for some rain gear for the 1 or 2 times I'll play in the light rain each year. I've read all the threads about Galvin Greene, Sunice, Zero Restriction, etc. and they all sound great, but I am not going to spend $500+ on rain gear. I'm looking at around $300 on the high end, preferably less than $200. So with that said, what is my best option?  Are ZR's non Gore-Tex suits good?  I've found a couple of their packable suits for around $250 top and bottom, and wonder how good they are?

Look at the hiking market, Patagonia and other brands offer as good or better protection than the "golf" brands and a better bang for the buck.

Buy your ZR stuff on Ebay.  The seller I bought through, namebrandgolfshirts, always seems to have ZR stuff available, new, for cheap.

For a good, inexpensive option, I've only read and heard good things about the Snake Eyes rain gear at Golfsmith.  If I weren't such a brand whore, that's what I'd get myself.

Get jacket and trousers separately.
Go to REI and get their rain pants for $50 and then spend a $150 on the 'best' golf rain jacket you can find onsale somewhere (whether the web or in store) and job done.
Oh and $20 for rain gloves... now job done.

That said if I was going to play in the rain once or twice a year, I wouldn't bother in the first place.

I am a big fan of Sunice, they fit me really well and I have one ZR jacket that is quality is well. Can find loads of deals online for last season's stuff or dodgy remaining colours.

Golfsmith has its own brand called Snake Eyes and I believe that they charge between $129 and $149 for the entire rain suit if you buy it as a set. I have their rain pants and it feels just like Footjoys gear to me. Might be an option for you.

Just shop around on line. Deals are easily found. I recently purchased a Sunice GoreTex jacket for $130 shipping included.

By the way - whats with this web site and the funky text? As you see sometimes I get into strikethrough mode or super small text. I post to a dozen other sites and never have a problem,

I honestly would just go buy something not golf specific... Like the previous poster mentioned...when it rains, depending on conditions, I either play in a UA golf storm jacket, or a REI rain jacket... Honestly, the REI stuff is way better than anything golf I've had (Sunice is up there though)

Try Cabella's.  They have Goretex stuff for right around $100 each.  Goretex is hands down the best.

I bought a Walter Hagan suit from Dick's Sporting Goods 3 years ago for $50!  And it still works in stopping rain and wind.  I just used it Monday night when i went to the Steelers game.  I was bone dry.

+ 1 to this. Its actually really good stuff, I just picked up a wind jacket for like $20 the other day. I have a full rain suit I got a couple years back that has held up well and served its purpose. I want to say I spent around 75 total.

Great rainsuit, especially for $150 total. They are sold in other retailers but this gives you an idea... Good color selection too.

Get last previous year's models. I purchased rain pants from REI's sales rack for a song. The rain jacket I have is a Gore Tex golf specific jacket that came out a couple of years ago that I purchased at 80% off (Sunice).

Bought an outfit from Golfetail.com made by The Weather Company. Only had to use it twice and it kept me bone dry. Hard to beat for $60

agree...namebrandgolfshirts has some great deals. I bought a pullover and got on the emailing list. They always have SM on sale and this last ad had a bunch of Cutter Buck and even some ZR rain stuff.

I will second the Snake Eyes stuff. Don't golf in the rain alot, but the Snake Eyes stuff has gotten me through 2 winters when I have been caught in the rain just fine. Be careful with stuff not designed for golf, it can sometimes be bulky and restrictive. There are lots of options out there on Ebay if you are patient and do your homework.

I did last years models on ZR.  Spent $250 total for Gore Tex jacket and pants.

Helps if you're Small or XXL+ sized.  It's tougher to find Medium/Large deals.

I think the Walter Hagen stuff is great. I've also done really well on Under Armour golf gear at one of their outlet stores. Nabbed one of the $100 waterproof jackets for like $9. But definitely look into the Hagen stuff.

Hardly any of the ZR gear on there is goretex, and the pieces that are on are really expensive. I've been searching for a ZR goretex jacket forever.
