A spin off the "scratch player" bag article....what would your set-up be for less than $1000 realistically...?

Using BST-Craigs-eBay etc

I'm sure it's been done before, and moderator can delete if its has, but how would you set up a bag for a $1000, that u would play tomorrow?....assuming most gear would be used, try to be realistic with prices....just curious as to see what would be most people's "must-haves" and what they could use to get by....BST, eBay, Craigslist etc as a reference for prices

It's been done plenty and $1000 would be way too easy. Do a search and check out the under $300, $400, $500 ones. You don't have to spend that much to get the ball in the hole with very good used equipment.

my current bag is actually pretty close. The only thing holding me back is that i dropped 299$ on a putter

Nike Dymo= 74$ off dallas golf
Cleveland Launcher FL= 95$ at golftown
Ping G15 Hybrid= 149 @ golftown
Ping G10 XG= 450$ at golftown
Ping 56 and 60 Tour S= 250$ at golftown
Ping Nome= 299$

I also have a IWI Craze i bought for 75$. So i could swap putters and play a bag that was 1075$ Canadian. So it basically works. And that's my real bag

The trick is to be able to purchase used equipment that has the same specs you'd need.  Anyone can find hundreds of excellent (dare I say mint) condition pre-owned gear at a mere $0.10 on the dollar but in "standard" length and lie angle.  So if you're not a standard fit, you'd really have to be realistic and have to consider about half the cost (about $500 or so) going to reshafting and refitting most sets including drivers, fairway metals, hybrids, wedges, etc. Now you're standard length and lie and use a stiff flex, you could get nice stuff for dirt cheap and then afford a Bennington bag and Bettinardi prototype tour issue putter.

No need to apologize, just stating that $1000 is really a high number and it doesn't take that much cash to put together a really good quality bag of sticks. It all depends on what you are really wanting- condition/specs/shafts and of course patience.
My bag.
Nike vr tour- 9.5 rip alpha 60- $80
Adams super hybrid 15-new golfetail auction- $64
Titleist 909h- 19 project x 6.0 -$109 (bought this one new 4 years ago)
Mizuno jpx 800- project x 6.0- $300- eBay
Callaway jaws 52/56 bought pair new $100 eBay
Taylormade spider vicino- traded my buddy for a cleveland classic brz 2 I got used off eBay for $34.
Taylormade tmx stand bag- $120 eBay

I mean my sack was not 1000 dollars, and it is pretty good

hybrid: Ping i20 TFC 75
Irons: i10 4-P s300 300
wedges tour s rustique 100 52/58
Putter redwood $80

Plus 80 for the bag and $135 for my grips to be installed, clubs cut, and a few little other things my boss did for me. i am at exactly 1K which is a great price for a bag of this quality i think.

My buddy put together a GREAT bag for very cheap

Driver 983K 20
3 wood 980F 40
Hybrid 585H 35
Irons 695 CB 150
Wedges Vokey 200 raw 30
Putter Odyssey DFX 2 ball with fatso 27

$302 for an all titleist bag is great! Clubs all have nv graphite and s300 steel. Grips are good to go. I gave him an old hoofer i had since 2008 which i got at a pawnshop to sell the clubs.

For 3 bills he has a great set of clubs he can game for a long time.

Driver:  Titleist 905r/nv stiff ($125)
3 wood: Nike T60/red board x ($150 due to shaft)
Irons: mizuno mp14 (2-p)/s300 ($115)
Wedges: Nike SV Tour 56 + 60 s400 ($80)
Putter: Odyssey 2 ball SRT ($50)

I played with this exact bag several months ago.  $520 total, which is less than half the price of 3 separate iron sets I currently own.  Sometimes money can't buy a better game.
