Like most clubs, there's always a bunch of griping about how the weekly tournament pool is divided up between the gross and net divisions.  So this weekend, we're trying an inaugural Ryder type format pitting the top 10 gross winners vs the top 10 winners.  While the handicaps in this group range from 4 to 26, full handicaps will be applied so it should be interesting.  First round is a 9 hole four ball, second round 9 hole alternate shot and third round is a 9 hole individual match play.

Anyone else participate in a similar event?  How did you fare?

Results are in.  At 100% handicaps, I honestly thought that the high handicappers had more than a good chance of winning this thing, but the day belonged to the single digits.  After the four ball, 3 of 5 matches to the gross division.  Alternate shot, 4 of 5 to the gross.  Individual matches, 6 - 2 - 2 in favor of the low cappers.  It was a massacre.

Our golf course plays in a ryder cup event but it is against the county over.  This year is the first year I have played in it and it was the highlight of the year along with the club championship.  I went 0-3 even though I played ok.  The alternate shot format is so much different than what I or most people are used to.  It's hard to get in rhythm but is a really good test of your mental game.

We do a Ryder Cup yearly. The club champion and runner up pick the teams, alternating picks, and make the match-ups. Actually makes it more fair. Lots of fun and a 2 day event. First day is 9 holes alternate shot, 9 holes low ball. Second day is individual match play.
